Default How to remove dealer badging?

Anyone successfully removed the chromed plastic advertising that some dealers stick on their cars? I'd like to get rid of it - it's ugly, and does nothing for the appearance. It's probably glued on with some double-sided tape, but I don't want to start twisting and prying away, 'cause I'll probably end up ripping off some paint.

Any suggestions on how to do this without damaging the paint? It's stuck on the left rear, not that the location matters I guess.

Use a piece of fishing line and get it behind the emblem. Move it back and forth in a sawing motion like you're flossing. Should peel the emblem right off. Try a citrus based goo remover to get any residual adhesive off the car, unless it's silicone, in which case you'll just have to peel it off by hand or use a plastic scraper.

I have removed several the exact way RagTop69 described.

3M Adhesive remover works great to remove the left over glue. It will not damage factory paint in any way.

Fishing line and use WD-40 to remove any adhesive.

For future reference, I always get the dealer to remove it before I pay him and leave the lot.

Pull it off and use WD40 to remove any left over glue. I seriously doubt you will remove any paint as the paint is under the clear coat.

Have removed/replaced several emblems and this is how I do it; the only thing I do is spray around the emblem down with the Goo Gone and let it is sit for a minute or 2 before I start with the fishing line. After I'm done I either wash the area down or the entire car and then wax it.

I've used Dental Floss (the strong kind not the cheap plastic tape stuff) and WD-40.

When "sawing" with fishing line (or dental floss), be sure you are sawing against the back of the emblem and not along the paint. Floss (and especially nylon fishing line) will really do a number on the paint if you're not careful.

It also helps if you use a hair dryer to heat the emblem/tape before removal so it's more pliable.

WD40 as others have mentioned or Goo Gone will remove the rest of the tape/adhesive.

Right, but use a hair dryer on it for about a minute
before the fishing line.

2nd this. Let them take it off and ask for license plate frames with their dealership.

I'd say that a hair dryer would heat up the tape enough to peel it off.

I tape off the area around the emblem and use a plastic prying tool to work the emblem up on one edge - one edge always seems to be the weakest you just need to find it by working your way around the emblem, once it starts to peel up just keep going.
I have never damaged the paint on a car. Most emblems I can have off in 30 seconds after I start prying.

WD40 is magic on things like that as said earlier.

Default And, we're off!

Thanks to all who gave suggestions

I decided to take what I thought were the best practices, and sprayed a bit of WD40 behind the badge, since it stuck out a bit. I let it percolate for maybe 30 seconds, and then used a piece of thin but strong cotton string, figuring that it was least likely to damage the paint. I can't believe how easily it came off - I didn't need to saw back and forth. I just looped the string behind the badge, and pulled a bit, and it cut through the tape like it was butter. Off came the badge, and there was maybe a 2" piece of residue tape left. WD40 took that right off, then a bit of wax, and you'd never know it had been there.

I should start a collection of these - got to decorate the garage somehow.

That’s what I did on my prior Vette, and the hairdryer is the way to go. You may want to use a small plastic putty knife, as the emblem will get a little hot. Just do it slow and easy so as to not damage the paint. Then the W-D 40 will remove any adhesive left behind.
