When do you replace your oil and what brand?
My DIC says 63% oil left. I'm wondering at what point the oil should be changed. Also, what brand is recommended. I've used Royal Purple in the past with other cars.

Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 is as good as you'd ever need. Change it when the OLM tells you on the DIC, which shows up after 5%. Neither the oil nor the engine know or care anything about the number of miles, days, weeks, months, or years that have passed. There is no expiration date or "best if used by" date on the oil container. The one year change shown in the owner's manual is only for the benefit of the dealer to assure your 5yr/100k mile warranty remains valid. The Mobil 1 oil jug even states, "If your vehicle is covered by a warranty, follow the vehicle's oil life sensor or the oil change interval recommended in your owner's manual". Unless you have a late year 2013 car, the warranty is already gone, so follow the OLM.
It seems the more exclusive the car is, the more it gets overly maintained by the owner. The LS3 engine in the Vette is nearly identical to the ones used in pickup trucks, etc for the last 10 years that get used and abused daily. It's not an exotic engine that needs special attention.

Not me, I average almost 25,000 miles a year, so I just follow the OLM. Many owners don't drive enough miles to actually "use up" the oil before a year has gone by, because the OLM doesn't take calendar time into consideration, which is why I said the "or one year" comment.

Mobil One. And for me, I change it every other year. By then my computer will probably be reading 75-80%. And it probably won't have 3,000 miles on it.

I change it when the OLM tells me to (or if it is close and I'm going to do a track day I'll change it before hand).

I got mine last January, put 4K on it so far, OLM says 36%. It probably has Mobil 1 in it now but I plan to change it soon with Driven's Joe Gibbs LS30. It's 5W-30 synthetic specially formulated for modern LS engines. I use their DT40 in my Porsche, it's specially formulated for water-cooled flat sixes.

Change mine evey other year also, and it probably doesn't even need it then. But I don't have to use Mobil One. I'll get what ever quality syn is on sale. Lots of myths about oil changing in all forums. I'll give half the day and there will be several post with long paragraphs on the "E=MC" squared properties of oil and why it should be changed at least once a year regardless of mileage......

I change it one year or when the oil lie monitor says 10% whichever is first.
