Advice for internet searches
I have been researching and have decided to try and find a nice C6 in the low 20s. I have a fairly good understanding of the different models and packages and I am willing to travel. I like the convertibles and Atomic Orange but it is more important that I get a car that has been well taken care of at a reasonable price.
My dilemma is that as I search, I find that different sites have widely varying prices. Some of the prices seem to good to be true and I know what that means. An example of this would be a well-equipped 2008 Z06 with around 4000 miles for $16,000.00. This same site has several similarly priced cars with low miles. Is this a possibility or am I being too skeptical? I would have to do a lot of negotiating, etc, without actually seeing the car first though I wouldn't buy it until I had. Am I looking for trouble? Are there any sites you know have problems? If anyone feels this post is inappropriate it can be deleted or you can PM if that is a better option. Thanks.

Guaranteed that there are not any 4000 mile 08 ZO6's for $16K.

Not going to happen, and the only Z06 that your going to find for around that price with be a C5 instead.
Hence even higher mileage C6 Z06's are going for mid to upper 30's, and if you did find a one for under $20K, you would not want it instead. It would be either flood damage/ savage title, and just more head ache that anything else isntead.

In the low 20's you're getting an early-mid generation narrow body if you want something clean.
IMO if you're buying a non-Z06/ZR1/GS, you need to start by narrowing what you really would buy:
Coupe or Convertible?
Auto or manual?
Color(s)?
How far will you travel?
LS3 only or open to LS2?
After that, you can worry about option packages, how many owners, etc.
The common answer here is to find the newest and lowest miles vette in your price range. I have to agree.
As far as where to look online, I don't think there are any secrets: cars dot com, autotrader, truecar, craigslist (with search tempest or the like), corvette forum.

Please add your location to your user information. It will be helpful with questions you have in the future if you plan on sticking around. If for some reason you're worried about OPSEC, at least put a region.

Try Craigslist, it was at one time (and may still be) the largest listing service for cars on the internet. You can search there via searchtempest.com by entering your search term and your zip code. It searches by distance starting with the closest listing. It will also display results for ebay. I think their auto site is autotempest.com but I've not used it.
I purchased my 2007 Z06 off Craigslist with a few minor problems, but it was well worth the time and effort. I will note that if there is a car listed that you want, hop on it quickly as the best values get sold quickly...hours can make a difference.

There are a lot actually, but they are out of the country and you need to send them $4000 to hold the vehicle and they will ship it to you, with a money back guarantee if it doesn't meet your expectations when you receive it. Has to be sent western Union right away thought

Another vote for Craigslist. Price wise you will definitely find the best deals there from private party sellers. Sometimes you have to be patient as everyone starts out high when listing.

A very comprehensive list! This is the exact logic I used to find my car. BTW, after scouring the internet forever, I found my car on craigslist! I had sold several items on craigslist, but never thought to look for a car!
