Overfilling gas tank

Overfilling gas tank
So I've had this funny issue since I purchased my car about a year ago. When filling up the pump clicks-off but there is always some overflow that is in the plastic area or even some that will drip to the paint. Am I just doing something completely wrong or is this a common issue?
Once the pump automatically clicks off I NEVER try to add more. I never have done that on this car because it is already over filling.

Fill up
If you are filling up on the 2nd or 3rd click of the nozzle that may be why. Use the 1st one and no problem. That way you have more time to answer questions from other customers about your Vette.

Do all the pumps that you use do this?
Do you insert the nozzle in all the way (i.e. down to the nozzle splash guard, assuming it has one)?
As a side note, on the 01 Aurora that I had, I had to insert the nozzle upside down, otherwise it wouldn't go in all the way. If was if the crook in the filler tube was bent the wrong way, or installed incorrectly. It always splashed when inserted the usual way because it wasn't all the way in.

When it clicks off the first time. It's full. I round off to the nearest .25 cent and that's it. Otherwise it'll overflow, but the gas drains through the overflow tube inside where the filler nozzle is. Never out on the paint.

Once the pump clicks to stop I never try to add more fuel.
This happens 100% of the time at every different pump I've been to.
The pump isn't ALL the way down but it usually sits at the spring on the pump nozzle.
I may try to use the slower lock positions and see if this may help.

With my Toyata pickups, which must have snaky, twisty, long filler tubes, it seems like you can never really fill them up. I can easily put an extra 2-3 gallons -- very slowly -- after the pump snaps off. It burps like a 300 pound guy after eating three garbage plates.
Not so with the C6. Once the pump snaps off you're done.

That's the correct answer, right there!

I have to say that looks good.
Just like the rest say, when the pump clicks, do not add anymore.

Mine has started to click every 10-15 seconds when there is no way it is full. Very annoying. I have turned the nozzle at different angles which is no help. Then the next time it works good.....at a different pump. Pumps are not created equal!

Yep....seems like this started several years ago where it was becoming more difficult to "Top Off" a tank. We noticed it first being an issue on our Acura we had bought about 8 years ago. Might be something to do with the new sealing systems to satisfy the EPA.

Once the pumps clicks off i don't add any more. I did that once to round off the dollar and it spilled out onto the paint. Didn't take much either so i don't even bother.
