I have heard of guys "underbadging" their cars in the old days when engine choices abounded, but who would want someone to think their car was supercharged, when it wasnt?

Well to each his/her own. I would say this owner either thinks no one knows anything, or he has no idea and last shot is he bought it that way. I might even believe the last as I know there are people out there that have always wanted a Corvette but are not real knowledgeable on them and believe what ever they are told.

Used to get into these debates at car shows back when I had my Camaro SS & there would be cars there with SS badges but no hood, spoiler, stock Z28 wheels, etc. These guys would always claim their car was "specially made" or didn't go to SLP for the full conversion or their color was the only one made in that color that year and so on. Same thing when I had my 300 SRT8 & 300Cs with the SRT8 badges in the wrong places, the wrong wheels, etc. I've seen a couple Vettes around me that have Z06 badges on them that are clearly base models & even saw a GS with ZR1 badges
