Mine needed front tires, alignment and a new power steering hose, other than that just little odds and ends like repairing the vanity mirrors, creaking top, and a good cleaning and buff job. I did change all the fluids and brakes. I paid 16k, private owner I'm the third owner. I think I got a good price on it especially for the Chicago area. 18k sounds like a good deal to me hope your not to late!!! I would jump on it very quickly!! That's a great price, in Chicago and a MN6. Nice find.

The dealer called me this morning. The car has a gas tank issue that needs to be fixed before they can sell it.

So if they are willing to fix that and not jack the price that is good for you. Seems like the harmonic balancer and fuel tank sending unit/transfer problem are 2 of the more expensive repairs on these cars.

It is probably the fitting that has broken off at the fuel pump. It is a common problem resulting in a gas smell near the filler door. There is a service bulletin for the problem and I got mine fixed by the dealer for free about a year ago. Is an expensive fix if you had to pay because they have to drop a lot of stuff to get to it, especially if an auto trans model.

Common fault on alot of GM vehicles. My daughters 09 Cobalt with the same problem was replaced under recall last September although she had no warranty to speak of. They also replaced the entire tank on her Cobalt.

Cheap plastic elbow fittings that break/crack. That 07 should be in good shape when they are done.

I won't know if they'll up the price or not until they fix whatever issue there is with the gas tank. Hopefully not. For the mileage, I like to keep the price under 20.

I am hoping that the bright yellow will help her to slow down a bit.

The thought has crossed my mind a few times My wife thinks that "drive it like you stole it" is a commandment from the car gods.

When I first brought my 06 home, she saw the 200 mile per hour speedometer like it was a direct challenge from Chevy.

She sounds like a fun gal, my wife's never been behind the wheel of my Vette... Good luck with the purchase, sounds like a good deal!

Sounds like he's talking about "Special Coverage Adjustment

This was my first thought. Not a big deal at all and it affected a lot of units.

Sounds like a fair price given the service that the dealer has done for the car. Ask the dealer for a service history and car fax report based on the VIN No. Any prior owner and accident history is helpful in evaluating the car. Was the car a trade in or auction car? Good to find out how the car was maintained and used by prior owners to the extent you can. The miles are reasonable considering the age of the car. Think with your head and not with your heart on any used car.

My 2012 has about 65k miles. My fuel tank sending unit just died covered by extended warranty. My HB failed early as did my water pump. Other than that no issues. Just wear and tear. I just replaced my steering wheel for 230 and recovered the drivers seat with new foam for about 550 or so.

So after everything was fixed at the dealer, they indeed raised the price a bit more than I wanted to spend. So to keep the wife happy, my 06 has now become her car.

I decided to go over to the dark side for a daily driver and picked up a Mustang GT vert.

She's happy and I no longer have to drive all over the bay area looking at cars (for now).

I'd hold out on a lower mile Vette, not to say that it has a ton of miles on it. I don't think you should limit you buying strictly based off of the availability in your area. I would widen my search to 600 miles and go for her dream Vette. One with all the bells and whistles, color, condition and lower miles. You could be missing out of a great opportunity. Your wife seems fun and spirited, turn it into a road trip you both won't soon forget. My wife and I drove just under 600 miles to get my 08' Z06 last February. I searched for a year here locally and found some decent ones. Pricing was fair here, but few to select from. I possibly could have lived with a couple that were available, but none were perfect. I widened my search to 300 miles, but never saw "The One' that I thought I had to have. I widened my search to 600 and low and behold found a 08' Z06, 23K miles, Machine Silver, Navigation, Chrome Spyder rims wrapped in brand new tires, Akrapovic Evo exhaust, Mild 2 Wild remote, K&N Air intake, black and red interior. Interior, looked good as new, exterior didn't have a scratch on it. before making the trip I called the seller (Jeep dealership) and haggled the price first. We agreed that they would send it to their local Chevy dealership and have a used car inspection done to it, at my expense, cost was $120, If I was satisfied and had now surprises I would make the trip. Inspection consisted of checking all fluids, measure tires, rotors, brake pads. Check all electronics, radio, wiper blades, turn signals, brake lights, headlights, and much more. The Chevy dealership emailed the full report to me, plus the full car history maintenance records. They suggested to replace the windshield wiper blades, that was the worst of it. Made the trip around 2am Saturday and was there 10 minutes before they opened. The car was better then I had hoped for. I had requested for the sales guy to take close-up shots of all body panels, engine bay and interior. I think I had close to 75 pictures in all. I told him that if I find that he had left out anything, scratches, scuffs, wear and tear that I would walk out on the deal. I was more then pleased. I paid 36.6K for it as agreed upon, signed away, ran across the street to get some wiper blades ($50) at Autozone and made the trip home by 10pm. Spent all night washing and detailing from the trip home. Feels like yesterday!

Seems like a fine price to me being the dealer did the stuff listed. I bought my '06 a few years ago with 32k miles in excellent condition from a private for $25k, so seems in line to me.
