you will need to replace the entire unit due to size differences of the internal components................ first post, so Welcome to the forum..............
you can also use the "search" button on the right hand side of the page to see more info. if you choose to do so.................... type in rear end or ratio change, etc.

You put 3.73's in and first gear will be useless......

RPM transmission offers gear ratio's from 2:73 thru 4:10 for your differential.the 3:73 ratio would be a lot of gear for your A6

Cant agree more ..... not like the old days where u only had a 3 speed auto or 4 speed Manual with at best with a Muncie, you could get a 2.56 first gear, most were 2.20 .... those days you needed 4:56 gears ....
3:42 is the max I would go for quarter mile and even that makes for a really quick 1st gear
HOHXOH has run 10's with his 2:56 .... I will keep mine .....

Thanks Dave. I'm not the only one in the 10's with a 2.56 gear either. As far as 1/4 mile times are concerned, I see only 2 choices. A 2.56 will cross the stripe near the end of 3rd gear, while a 3.42 finishes in 4th. A bone stock Vette might benefit from a 2.73, since it doesn't have enough power to be fast enough to run out of RPM in 3rd.

Just buy a stock C6 Z06 differential and call it a day. Cheapest upgrade option available as well as being the strongest.

I went from the 3.42 to 4.10 in a base manual. Only had it installed 3 months before it hydroplaned on me and was totaled. The 4.10 was a fantastic rear. If someone is thinking about it then go ahead and do it.It was like a completely different car. Didn’t need to wait to do 80 mph to put the car in 7th. Could drop it in at 65.

A high stall converter will be more beneficial in your 2007 A6 car than a set of final drive lower gear ratios

If your A6 car die's when shifting to 4th it has nothing to do with the gear ratio.Depending on year of car it came with 2:56 or 2:73 and with a twin turbo set up either of those gears would work.

A little gear for the A6 can wake it up, in *all* gears. I'm going 3.15 so I can be at/under 80 mph in 2nd gear @ 7k rpm, but you can vary up or down. I feel 3.73 is too much gear, unless you are a crazy gearhead lol. See attached spreadsheet to plug in some numbers, which I have been doing in the document. You can figure out what gear combo if you are into quarter mile racing with certain modifications..
