Need exhaust tip covers
Need exhaust tip covers.
The tips on my car are black and I would like to know if anyone knows of chrome tip COVERS I can put over the tips.
I know I can get the actual chrome or SS tips to weld on but I don’t want to go through the trouble. Call me lazy.

Never heard of such for a C6. I know they made them for the C5, but the tips are different for the C6.

The C6 tips are solid stainless so they should never have to be replaced. Just clean them. Unless they have never been cleaned a little Mother's Chrome Polish and a few minutes elbow grease should be all that is needed. I use an electric tooth brush and it takes less than a minute but then they are never very dirty.

That reminds me of the BMW commercial were the guy is cleaning his emblem with a toothbrush, and his son asks who's toothbrush, and he answere's it's your mothers....

Thanks to all for the info.
I think the previous owner painted them black. It’s not dirt.
I will try to strip the paint off and polish them.

Tried to remove the black coating today but couldn’t get it off.
I tried acetone, paint stripper, and mothers polish.
It looks like black stainless steel. Like it was made that way, not painted or dirty.
BUT, the very edge of the tips are shiny like chrome. I don’t get it.

I have used oven cleaner with good success in the past on tips. Get them hot and spray of brush on the open cleaned and let set for about 15 minuets. Be careful not to get it on the paint of plastic diffuser. You may need to use the oven cleaner several times. If that does not work too well, use an electric drill with industrial cotton polishing *****, cones and wheels with the green stainless steel polishing compound, available at Harbor Freight or most auto parts box stores. Allocate several hours to do this. There is really no other alternative except to replace the muffler section. I Have polished some that were so bad I actually removed the muffler section to work on them. Not a quick fix.

You can certainly consider doing this.The muffler section will need to be removed and an experienced stainless steel welder will need to attach the new tips. after the old tips are removed. After the new tips are installed the welds should be carefully ground. I would estimate this would cost about $200+ including the tips. Try everything suggested here to polish your existing tips back to their original brilliance before you replace them.

While I was in the Navy (22years) I spent 3 years on an ice breaker going between Boston and the Antarctic every year. We had aluminum lockers that we polished with Brasso. After so many years of polishing, they looked like they were made of chrome. Still have a can of Brasso So I’ll give it a try.

It almost looks like the tips have been 'blued', like a rifle barrel. As a last resort, try 600 grit wet paper. If that works, use finer grades to finish, along with something like brasso.

But now that you mention it, that’s exactly what it looks like.
The edges look like chrome. You can see that in the photos. So I’m wondering if sanding would mess the finish up if it really is chrome under there. I’m going to try the Brasso first.

I just tried:
Paint stripper= no effect
Brasso= no effect
Never dull =no effect
Mothers =no effect
And finally= Brillo pads. This proved to have the best results.
That being said,,I now have very shiny black exhaust tip.
One of two things though,, they are either blued, or anodized.
At this point, I think the only way to make them look like chrome or polished SS is to sand them down. This would be very time consuming and a lot of work, so I’m opting for new after market chrome tips.
I also noticed that the muffler was black but not from dirt or exhaust, so someone has done something under there to make it look all black to hide the muffler and pipes.
