Headliner for transparent roof question
I'm thinking about getting one of those headliners that goes on with suction cups but I'm concerned about head room. Does anyone know how thick they are? Thanks

Those work great with transparent roofs. No concern with taking up headroom.

Previous owner included one of these when I bought the car. I'd say it's closer to 3/4" including suction cups. It's pretty squishy though. It seems pretty nice. I took it off on day 2.. I love the transparent roof. When the heat of summer hits it might go back on.

If you can find one of the static cling type get that. I got one last summer from West Coast Corvettes but it looks like they are not available at this time. Mine works great and is only as thick as a quarter.

If you look at the pics provided at product link I posted you can see how that one fills the gap and is flush with the surrounding areas. If you need that recessed area to stay open it sounds like you need one that is not the cushy suction cup type. That static cling option that was suggested sounds like a better option in that case.

It's about the exact same headroom of a painted roof. Actually looks like a painted roof from the inside but I'm just going with my first c6 vs my 2nd c6.
3/4 of an inch sounds about right. I'd check it but its all tucked in a cover in the garage right now.

I think you might be getting two different answers because some people are giving you the thickness of the actual liner, but the distance added by the suction cups needs to be taken into consideration for your concern. Looking at the pictures I would guess the liner is somewhere around 1/4", and standard suction cups when suctioned- 1/2"? So it probably is a ~3/4" adder from the inside of the targa when you consider the suction cups and the liner.
Good luck OP.

I put a static cling (the one with "dots") tint on my 07 coupe. It helped a lot with decreasing the summertime heat while still allowing the light to come through.

Just measured mine. 3/4" including the suction cups and VERY soft and squishy. It was easy to measure because it hasn't been out of the closet for probably 8 years. Sure they might help a little with sun if you park outside a lot down here on the Gulf Coast in the summer but that is what A/C is for. I MUCH prefer the openness of the clear top rather than the claustrophobic atmosphere the headliner gives.

As a side note, I installed one of those perforated static cling films on the inside of the transparent top. It does nothing for noise, but does cut down on sun transmission. And zero clearance issue.

Mine came with the perforated-dot static-cling type via the previous owner. I keep it on permanently because it completely cuts the glare and heat (and I'm in S FL where the sun really beats down) but still allows some light and the open feeling of the transparent top.

Does anyone know of an outlet for the static cling type?
Also, a couple folks have mentioned that the suction-cup headliner "cuts down on noise"...what noise comes through the roof panel???? I'm not talking about the rattles and pops from the various contact points, as they exist with or without the headliner, correct? So, what noise is decreased?

It helps muffle the noise coming from the SpaceX rocket booster should you and your car happen to be the next test launch ballast. Here on earth it helps a bit with road noise and wind noise, but I can't say it's dramatic. Not sure if it's a matter of sound coming through the roof panel vs absorbing it a bit once in the car from any source (hard sound reflective surface vs soft sound absorbing surface.)
