Switching from my V6 (G37s) to a V8 (C6) as daily driver?
Hey Corvette crew!
I currently daily drive a G37s which I enjoy. Very refined and has a punch. This is the first coupe I ever owned. I was thinking of the idea of switching to a V8. I was originally thinking of going with a Camaro ss, GT 5.0 or a Pontiac G8 GT. Someone pitched me the idea of a C6. I drive five miles to work and put less than 3-4k miles/year. I live in Georgia so weather isn't terrible.
Have any of you switched over to a C6 for a daily driver and have any input? I definitely like the idea of it. I read that heavy rain can be troublesome.

I live in California and drive 3 days a week to the office in my C6. I work 10 miles from home. It's a fun car to drive and I don't drive it in the rain when we do get rain here.

My 2012 base coupe was my daily driver until I retired last year. I put 58k miles on it in 4 years. Drove it in all weather except deep snow. The car had no significant issues. Got 30 or more MPG on the highway and was comfortable to do 600 mile days routinely. I ran Firehawk tires and still do. Rain was a non issue and I drove the car in temps as low as -6f
Bottom line they make good daily driver in everything but snow.
Mine is now retired with me. Has 65k miles now. Like me it has a few scars but is still a great car

Hard to compare a Corvette to a G37 as far a punch goes. I love my Z06 and used to have a 300zx, again, not a good comparison. I'm 15 minutes to work and would not hesitate to get the ZX out in the rain or snow, But I baby my Z06 and it only see's nice sunny days and no snow. However, I have been caught in the rain a couple times and it has done fine, I just prefer not to.

Your commute is so short you won' notice a difference.
The C6 is faster by a HUGE amount. Like, a G37 doesn't even count as "sporty" anymore faster. That said, I always found the 370z to be more fun. While the G37 wasn't as fun as a 370z, it gives you an idea.
Doing it all over again, I'd probably be looking really hard into a Mustang, saving the money, and having more fun. Things like tires and brakes cost quite and bit more on and Vette than a Mustang. I'd get the stang and do burnouts all the time. That said, I've had 3 C6s, I won't buy another one, not because they'e not good, but because their limits are so high they're not fun.

I had a 2013 G37 Manual before I bought my 2012 C6 Manual...both daily.
I really loved the G37. I thought it was plenty sporty. The interior and tech toys are outstanding IMO. That car is built solid and I never had any issues with it at all.
That being said, I never ever had the feeling for that Infinity like I do for my Corvette. I have had the C6 going on 4 years and I love it more now than when i first bought it. The power is insane compared to the G37. I will admit that the Chevy interior and toys leave much to be desired, but the power and coolness factor shine so much that I don't care one bit...I've felt like that since the beginning.
The only regret I have is not getting a Grand Sport instead of the base model. I really like the wide body look and wish I had concave wheels. Small regret really. I road race now and that has made me fall in love for life. I will always be a Vette owner now.

Temper my comments with my age... 71. I've owned a C3s, a C5, and currently a C6 GS vert. My wife loves the vette. Me... meh. It's been a long time since I rowed through the gears with a quart of beer between my legs.
My daughter (36 - no pics) has a G37 hardtop convertible. To me that's an impressive car. Great engineering, great creature comforts, and all the "poopy" I need. I much prefer it on the road.
Lastly, and I'll catch a boatload of **** for this, but most of us if we're honest, buy cars for the perceived impression they make. The Corvette makes an impression, no doubt... street racers or retirees. Certainly not impressive to the young professionals.
Okay guys, let 'er rip.

I'll be honest. You have one year on me, and my vette makes an impression on me. So did the '64 roadster I owned years ago. At this point, I don't care if anyone else is impressed. I just like driving it.

Only drawback is you will have to leave for work earlier, because you will find yourself wanting to take the longways. You will also have other Corvette owners waving! SOOOOO you will have to learn the wave. Gas stops will take longer because everyone will want to chat. Others will saying things like; He's going thru a midlife crisis or he's compensating for having a small............ Pay no attention to that. Just keep smiling mile after mile. Bill

I'll put it this way...
I've owned a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT convertible, a Jag XK convertible, a Mercedes CLS550 and a BMW335i. I keep coming back to Corvettes.

I drive my GS vert daily from April through October. Rain or shine, no snow though. 18 miles one way.
I found this pic on line. I've been in heavy rain but not this bad.

Daily driving a corvette 12k miles a year is awesome. I'm in my third corvette bought new....this c6 has 118k miles...
The c6 is a blast to daily....
The g37 is a nice luxury sports coupe...
The c6 is a sports car...
Test drive the corvette and see if it's for you....or do you prefer the g37 luxury sports coupe...
Buy the manual corvette as it makes it even more involving ...
You commute is so short...maybe buy a preowned Chevy bolt for 10 grand and uses no gas at all...and it's very silent...

I've never had any trouble in the rain. At least not since I replaced the OEM Goodyears with Pilot Supersports. Those tires have huge rain channels in them.
The only thing that bugs me a little is the low ground clearance. I have to watch the washboards and steep hills on our cheaply maintained roads, plus speed bumps and railroad crossings of course.

I daily drive mine -- I have an easy, short commute, though. Imho, the car is rubbish in stop and go traffic, the transmission starts complaining. For a few years, I didn't drive it in the rain but I do now. The only drawback to rainy weather is that the car gets dirty.
I have seen a couple of Corvettes on my morning drive lately. I guess they're coming out of the garages.
