This is Texas but probably similar across most states. In order for the car to be auctioned it had to be free of any lien and not stolen.

We have a Automotive shop and were planing to do a Title abandonment but if we do that the price of the car will go significantly higher. A title can be obtained through a Title bond via insurance or paperwork through your city/county. Please do the research how you can obtain the title in your state, there are many ways to go about it. The cost will be between $220-480 depending on your state and it will take about 2 months!! We want a quick sale so are posting it as a no title car!

Because the title is missing? If the car had a lien then the holder would (probably) have the title and the car could not be auctioned off by the storage company. Since the storage company did auction the car that tells us the car does not have a lien and is free and clear.

Then why is it being sold without a title in Georgia? From the ad:Current price is over $57K. I would NEVER buy a 9 year old car with only 700 miles. Seals will be shot on engine and transmission. There is a nice 2008 Z06 with 22K miles currently for sale in Mobile Al. for $38K. $57K is insane for this untitled POS.

In IL it is not that hard to get a title. In some cases they require you to attempt to contact the owner, and even then if they want it back, you can require them to pay for years of storage as well, so there can be money make. If they don't respond or refuse to pay, then a judge will make the call and in many cases if the car was considered abandoned, the previous owner will lose; especially if the storage facility attempted to contact as well.

Sitting in a storage unit for many years is a lot worse than sitting in a garage over the winter. Gas will have evaporated leaving gum. Oil and gas tanks will have water due to condensation. Totally discharged battery will freeze at 32 degrees and have cracked dumping acid on the ECM area. 9 year old tires on a Z06 makes it a killing machine. There's a reason the auto shop had it towed and doesn't want to bother trying to get it titled and "if we do that the price of the car will go significantly higher" is not the reason. They said they wanted a quick sale and that wasn't going to happen with the car in the condition it is in unless they found a sucker on EBay willing to pay a 70% premium for "low miles". Edmunds gives a $4K premium for the 720 miles. If it didn't have the scratches from shipping and was mechanically perfect with new tires it would be valued at $34K. Clear evidence that there's a sucker born every minute.

Because a title isn't going to be the only problem with a "garage queen" that has been sitting for 9 years. They wanted a quick sale and if was going to take time and money to get this car running again. They knew they could find a sucker on EBay that would think 720 miles was valuable and they were right. Just look at the other responses in this thread. Seems there are a lot of people willing to pay WAY over what a comparable running car is worth for a "barn find".

Somewhere a bank is awaiting some great news lol. It was likely stored to avoid a Repo when something happened to the guy (fled the country, deployed military, injured, arrested, passed away, etc) so the bank will still want their money once someone tries to Title or Register the vehicle since the VIN will still show a Lien.
Not to mention, a car stored that long will need quite a bit of work. My Camaro sat for 3 years and even with stabil in the gas tank and when I pulled it out it still needed a new fuel pump, new fuel gauge sending unit, a tank (wouldn't be an issue for modern plastic tanks), and a fuel filter - and after all that it still took 3 tanks of full bottle seafoam treatments to clear out the lines and injectors.
This car was stored for THREE TIMES as long.
