Default 2005 c6 manual trans

I just bought a 2005 c6. It has 122k miles on it and it runs great except when taking off. Does not matter what gear I'm in but the car makes a grinding noise... it will grind for a couple seconds then it goes away. Can anyone help me out with what it might be? And also maybe a solution.. thx chris

I would get under the car and look for anything suspicious while changing trans, diff and motor oil to look for shavings or contamination. Also the clutch info on a manual trans.

You might be in the market for a new clutch.

Do the Ranger method changing the clutch oil under the hood.

Check the torque on the rear axle nuts too. If they are still the original nuts they may be loose, the nuts were changed/upgraded around '08 or so. You can get them from your Chevy dealer for a couple bucks each.

Sounds like a throwout bearing or maybe a pilot bearing.. When my pilot bearing went bad it would make a grinding/squealing sound for a few seconds everytime I let the clutch out while in gear...WW

Thats what mine is starting to do. Sound like something is hitting the bellhousing. Its either the throwout or torque tube. My car only has 59k on it

before i even get under the car i would open up the clutch resorvoir and check to see how much Dot 4 fluid is in there and how dirty it looks, if it's low it may cause the symptoms you are decribing.

The clutch fluid being low or dirty may cause grinding getting the car in and out of gear, or while shifting gears.. I have never seen it cause grinding when it's in gear and the clutch is released like the OP is getting..It's not a bad idea to check your clutch fluid , but I don't think it's the problem..WW

05 42K when I bought it. .... ... made quite a difference!

(BTW: Amazon has a large syringe that can empty the clutch reservoir in one pull of the plunger. )

I agree

Ranger method is a great idea I do it all the time but I don't think it's gonna fix this one based on what the OP is describing.
