Default Do I need seat rebuild kit?

I’m removing my seat skins to send off to Interior Innovations & I was going to be preemptive and install seat rebuild kits while the seats were out. Removed the bottom cushions and found what is pictured below, so do I need the rebuild kits? Thanks!

Are there any slices in your bottom cushion? If not, you may be good since it looks like a pad has been installed to keep the wires from penetrating the foam. However, the original (and any replacement) cushions are also susceptible to tearing on the edge of the seat frame where your butt constantly pushes down on the foam. I see in the pic that the seat frame is not covered. What I did was take some felt, double it over...if not quadruple it, then secure it over the sharp edge of the seat frame with duct tape. This prevents it from cutting into the foam.

One thing to be aware when you do this is the additional volume of felt makes it tricky to line up the screws when replacing the hardware that was removed to break down the seat.

Also, if I remember correctly, the passenger side already had a juke pad (like yours above) installed from the factory. Why one wasn't installed on the driver's side is a mystery of the universe. Did your driver's side have a pad installed?

Passenger side gets a jute pad so it allows the air bag system to stay shut off when you have a baby seat in it. Hence there is a seat pressure sensor under the pad, and without it, the wires would cut into the seat pad to cause the senor to read too much pressure with say a baby seat in it, to active the air bag system on that side.
Note, on the 05, there is a switch in the glove box you use to turn the air bag system on that side of the car off instead.

On the drivers side, GM figures that someone will be in the seat, so no seat pressure switch or OEM jute pad on that side instead.

yeah, nothing on the driver’s seat so I will be buying a kit for it. Also looks like I need to replace the seat back foam as it is torn on the side bolster with the seat frame sticking through.

Do you have a '12/'13? Are you sending them off so they can use for a pattern? If not, why are you sending the skins to them?

Wrap the bolster itself with some protective material before you put the foam on. This will protect it long term.

Yes mine is a '12, so they asked me to send them to use as a template.

The foam in the seat rebuild kits is just 1” high density foam. I’m going to buy a piece of it from a hobby/craft store and cut it to the same size as the 4 blocks in the seat rebuild kit for my passenger seat.

Don't know how big you are but seeing how the Vette is pretty small unless your short like me I would ask you to consider how much extra padding you install in relation to your noggin (head) and the top of the headliner. If I have a ball cap on and lean forward I almost touch. Just an idea

The foam blocks fill in the open area in the seat frame & under the bolsters. They don't add any extra height but should prevent the bolsters from breaking down from repeated entry/exit.
