Just had mine done at "Buy A Vette " in Atlanta. They said they have done over 1,000 HB replacements. Total OTD price for aftermarket Balancer, bolt, seal and belt is $780.00.

Gee, that's $780,000. Maybe they should send GM a thank you note. LOL

I am a little gun-shy, since my last car was a Porsche with a known bearing issue that lead to a grenaded engine.[/QUOTE]

Me too.......I had a beautiful 02 Boxster S for 4 years. I loved the car until the motor grenaded. I even had a LN ceramic IMS bearing in it, but it still blew. No more Porsches for me.....POS. The positive side is now I got this great C6 that I'm really enjoying.

Don't rush out for a new crank shaft seal yet. Lots of opinions on whether you really need to replace it or not. Mileage may be key here. Some say you'd be foolish not to change it while your in there. Some say if it ain't broke don't fix it....etc.....etc. And after some opinions you'll notice that some "Experts" giving suggestions don't even know how the seal is placed in relation to the H/B.........good luck.....

Highly recommend Power Bond Race Series balancer and ARP crank bolt.

Not replacing the timing cover seal would be absolutely foolish, the part is under $20.00 the old timing cover seal can be worn from the the crankshaft as explained in earlier posts, think about having to disassemble the entire project because you have a oil leak in the front of the engine over a $20.00 part, there's 4-6 hours no shop wants to eat, no qualified mechanic is going to do that job and not replace the seal. I had my Balancer replaced at East Coast Supercharging in Cream Ridge N.J. not replacing the seal was never even a consideration, and these guys know Corvettes, also the timing cover seal is installed in the front of the timing cover where the crankshaft hole is of course.

Seems to me an earlier post suggested that the H/B rubbed against the crank seal so one should always replace the seal so the new balancer will have a fresh seal to press against. Is this true ?.......is the balancer actually making contact with the seal when the balancer is running anywhere between idle and 6000 RPM while the seal is stationary.....or does the seal spin also? ...?.....

I'm going with the Innovators West for my LS7. I did some website work for my mechanic's company, so he's trading my work for the balancer.
I went IW as well. Got an ATI that fell onto the crank. ATI tries to convince me that GM makes crank snouts in multiple sizes, really. Called IW, press fit, done.

No matter what some "experts" say, or even those that claim to know more than experts...

It makes no sense to replace a balancer without also doing the seal. Do you really want to pay for another 4 to 6 hours labor to pull the balancer again and replace a seal that should have been replaced the first time??

Here's the balancer I replaced at 39,000 miles... See the wear??? It's not just a polished strip, I can feel the groove !!
