The bottom should be exposed carbon fiber
You paint it because the factory plasn that built these did not intended for these to be exposed carbon fiber hoods so they did not put a uv inhibitor into the resin.
Give the hood a year or two in the sun unpainted and it will look terrible

Did you have any issues getting it painted? Is the underside exposed carbon fiber or did you paint that body-color as well? I just mentioned it to the bodyshop that did my wife's Jeep hood & my ZR1 extended rear spoiler & they seemed puzzled as to why I would want to paint the hood.
The underside is exposed carbon fiber. Looks great.
Original:
After paint and installed on my car.

I don't think that the top part is made to be exposed even though it is all carbon fiber. It would be interesting to see what a new one looks like before painting.
The bottom is the part that was made to be exposed from the factory.
Be sure to post up a photo of the top before you paint it.

This hood reminds me of the '69 Z28 Camaro cowl hood when it first came out. It reminds me that Chevrolet can get it right and make a gorgeous hood when they want to.

Does anyone have a pic of this hood on a base model C6? That hood is awesome

Melting Slicks
Is that hood raised underneath where there would be more clearance for an eforce supercharger? My SC presses slightly against the hoodliner of the OEM standard hood. I always liked this hood and am tempted to get one.

I would say that there is slightly more clearance than a stock hood. I would guess, maybe and inch or two.

I don't think the carbon weave is exposed, I believe that the hood will appear a greyish color of the layup. That's what the carbon front fenders look like on the Z's. They were not meant to be exposed weave.

That is not a photo of Jabcat' GS.
That is a photo of a Carbon Edition Z06. In 2012 and 2013, you could order your car with various colored headlight buckets depending on the color of your car.
I think that the carbon edition had those headlight buckets as part of the option package.

As nc Vette said, that wasn’t a pic of my car - I was asking about the hood. However, I did paint my headlights this weekend

Yep I agree! I'll be looking into your instructions soon, thanks for the writeup! Let me know if there's anything else you can think of that you'd do differently if you had to do it all over again. Solid work!!!!

I followed a thread titled something like Anyone Paint Their Headlights or similar. Take your time, I did break a couple tabs on the light housing which doesn't really matter because the new glue holds them together I was also able to get the lights out without removing the front bumper which was nice. Oh - I didn't wet sand the final clear coat because inside it all looked smooth, but after I installed them & the sun hit, you can see a little orange peel if you're right up on them & the sun is hitting at the right angle. Probably I will be the only one to know it is there, & I'll fix it down the line whenever I need to replace the lenses.
