Default Where to buy C6 from? (Used Lots/Certified Pre-Owned/Private Seller?)

I'm currently looking at Corvettes for my mom, I let her drive my C5 that I just bought in December and she is now dead set on buying a red C6 for herself now since all of her kids have moved out so she no longer needs to have 4 seats. I generally don't like buying from used car lots because they always seem to be hiding things and don't have decent warranties anyways to justify costs over a private seller. However, I have found a beautiful C6 at CarMax with 24k miles on it ( https://www.carmax.com/car/15734597 ). Have any of you bought from CarMax? Is it a good buying experience? How is their warranty? Is it worth it to go through CarMax for slightly more money over a private seller on Auto Trader / Craigslist? Thanks in advance.

I've purchased a car from them, also purchased the extended warranty from them, and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. The entire purchase experience was great, and even after my car started developing some very expensive sensor repairs that far exceeded the cost of the warranty they took care of everything completely to my satisfaction, and I'm one very picky customer. I should add that the warranty that I purchased covers seals and gaskets as well, so anything that went mechanically wrong with the car was covered 100%.

I despise buying from dealers or car lots, but if I had to, I would choose Carmax. Generally highly rated, and good warranties available. You want to take care of your Mom, and not give her a constant headache. If you buy a C6 elsewhere, I recommend you get the GMEPP warranty, for her sake.

That sounds great! Thanks! I will definitely make sure to tell her to get that warranty if she decides that this car is the one!

I believe people less than I believe dealers. Plus private sellers always value their cars more because of "mods."

The best used cars I bought have been CPO from dealers.

Reluctantly I will agree.... In AZ there is no state sales tax when purchasing from a private owner > big plu$. Also, the dealerships love to tack add-ons to the sale, for example the BS *dealer doc fee, paint protection plan, extra tinted glass, dealer detail, nitrogen tire air, extended warranties, etc etc. Since 2000, I've bought seven cars from private owners.....face to face, understanding how the vehicle was driven, how/if the car was serviced, length of ownership, and the reason for selling. True, they usually start asking for retail price for a nice car, but you just find middle ground or walk away,,,,leave your phone number with the seller. All seven of those cars I bought have been 'gems' and I know I saved money and didn't have to deal with all of the dealer baloney and their blindsided profit schemes.

I hope you find Mother a nice C6,,,she deserves it!

*Doc Fee > If you are in Calif. you are lucky,, as I understand there is a state law only allowing a $55 doc fee?,,,,which is reasonable.
Dealers charging $299 to $699 for the doc fee are only reaching into your billfold for extra profit, and smiling after you drive away in their sold car.

If your looking for a C7 Z06 I found a few up here in No. California. 2016's with less than 4000 miles on them. $70K with factory warranty still. They are at a McLaren dealership.

Reading is apparently very hard.

Ive bought from both dealers and private sellers, it just depended on who had exactly what I was looking for at the time. All have went smoothly. I have heard good things about Carmax and almost bought a ZL1 from them but I just wasn’t quick enough on the trigger. I’d say if they have what you’re looking for then check it out.

Carmax has a good reputation, read nothing but positive things re them.

Car looks beautiful, owned a '06 w/ Z51 just like it.
Low miles @ 2.5K per year is an understatement.
Think she's ready for all the new attention from neighbors & peers?

Methinks '08 won't last long whatwith Spring's arrival.
If serious best make a move soon, or someone else surely will.

A good warranty's wise, too.
Consider giving the Fictners a shot, Carmax's cost vs Fictner.
Be sure to get Premium coverage if choosing GMEPP, worth the extra $ if.

I always like to purchase from private owners but Carmax does have a decent reputation.

Make sure it has the equipment she wants. That one appears to be a 1LT which would be considered a base model. Look online to see the differences in equipment on the Corvette models.

CPO C6s might be hard to find .... the newest ones are 5 years old already. Second best is a GMPP warranty ... not cheap.

CarMax is fantastic. I have bought five cars from them and as far as their extended warranty, they actually stand behind it. You can take your car to them OR the dealer. Your choice and no hassles either way.

I've been looking for 3 months and have noticed that dealers actually have better prices than owners. Since most people finance part of their cars, the prices need to be near blue book to get lenders to bite. Private owners think that they have 24 karat gold sitting in their garages.
BTW, I found my car today at a Chevy dealer. Got a great car at a great price. Found it through Cargurus

I had called and asked what package was on it and the lady on the phone said they had no idea because they had left the box open when they purchased it and would send someone to see the car to find out, then would call me. No call since.

It is definitely a 1LT...no need for them to verify.

Carmax gets most of its inventory from auctions. Just like other dealers.
