Default Just bought a C6...MANY QUESTIONS

Hey guys, I just bought a C6 BASE today (2006), It's fairly well equipped (no NAV). I didn't get the owners manual and its too dark to snap a photo of the RPO sticker to research it (dang manuals are $75 on ebay)

I have what looks like paddle shifters (but no other steering wheel controls) and an auto-shifter that looks like it says P R N D S. Which auto trans do i have (there were 2 options right)?? I don't see anything on the HUD or dash that indicated which gear I'm in, I also DON'T have G92 (but I don't think that's a big deal in the C6's??? the ratios are so close).

Tomorrow i will dig into the RPO's and do my investigating and learning but I cant wait i need instant gratification

2 owner car, second owner had it since 2008 (Las Vegas, NV), service records in history report, no accidents

options that i have:
HUD, Bose, Sport Seats, Memory, Paddle Shifters

there is NO:
NAV, adjustable suspension, Z51

Bonus:
Corsa's, quality tint job...rest of the car appears to be bone stock

can anybody provide me some info?

Only one auto trans that I know of. When you select Sport mode on the trans it will act just like it normally does in Drive. But if you use the paddle shifters the car will start in second gear from a stopsign etc unless you use the paddleshifter to select 1st. When using the paddleshifters the HUD will indicate the gear selected. The paddleshifters have no effect in drive.
Congratulations on your new car! Recently bought a 07 Base auto myself

for some reason i thought i was reading some threads and people were saying things like a4 or a6 ect...and that G92 wasn't available with paddle shift optioned cars...i could have totally misunderstood what i was reading while researching or maybe later LS3 C6's had more options, i have no idea or heck maybe that was performance models with an auto...

does anybody know if a factory NAV would plug-n-play? i would understand if the NAV wouldn't be able to update but would it function and/or have the correct harnesses?

for example...in a C4, you could drop in a Bose Gold head unit and get a functioning CD in a car that was non-bose with cassette deck only

A4 = 4 speed auto 2005 only.
A6 = 6 speed auto all other years.
Don't know what G92 is.
Nav is plug and play but you will need to get it unlocked at the dealer after installation.

Ah, The 2005 C6 had a different trans than the later models. I'm not familiar with G92.
The search function has several threads on installing nav into a base vehicle .

G92 is the performance axle option
Base is 2:56 (GM8) and Performance is 2:73(G92 GU2)
But from what i was reading, not all automatic C6's had the option to even get a G92?? seems odd that that would be true

Congrats on your new ride. You are going to love it.

For what the factory nav would cost you, you could but an aftermarket quality head unit that will do everything the stock unit does. Just got a Kenwood Excelon unit and back up camera, custom plug and play harness, and install for under 1k. Will work with the Bose speakers

Congrats and welcome to the forum.

You can purchase used nav units right here in the C6 parts for sale forum. The nav unit is old but it works just fine if you read the user guide and learn how to use it. You will find that it is not as intuitive as more modern nav units.

It integrates into your HUD and shows nav instructions and radio channel which I really enjoy.

The nav unit has no direct way to connect your phone or iPod to play music. For that visit Ray Kawal’s website.

http://www.kawal.net/vettemods.htm

The paddle shifters can be fun. Consider adding NPP dual mode exhaust and controller.

Enjoy.

But I wouldn't go out of my way and expense of installing an OEM Nav. I would think you can get an aftermarket head unit with Nav, Bluetooth, backup and front parking camera for far cheaper with bells and whistles.

100% correct. Get an aftermarket NAV if you don't want to use your phone. I have yet to even figure out how to use mine. Electronics should be intuitive.. This is not. You shouldn't have to read a manual to figure out how to use it.

a lot of hate for the NAV...i don't want the NAV to exactly "use" it, i was just thinking it would look nice in the dash and OE units are on local CL for fairly cheep (under $300). the only time i ever use NAV is when i'm out driving around and i want to look ahead and see if i'm on a dead end road or not

plus i assume it displays images (and other visual's) for mp3's and music related content? (which is a feature i really like). i mean I can pick up a used GM unit for around $250...i find it hard to believe that's not worth it ?!?!?!

THANKS!! this was great...my HUD is in the wrong position for me and so glad to find out that i can adjust the position plus the data it displays. I also wanted to turn off the "exit" memory feature (i don't like my power seat tracks moving any more than they need to) and i love all the options i have for customizing the passive keyless features (i hate the horn beeps)

plus i just saved $75
