I had bought an AC Delco branded 1.5 ton racing jack, light and aluminum, which lasted 2 years. It started to leak and was not serviceable. Don't waste your money on a cheap jack. I purchased the Sunex 6602LP and it is approx. 100 lbs, long reach and low profile. Twice the floor jack as the cheap aluminum ones in quality but twice as expensive. You get what you pay for.

I got this 3.5 ton low profile from Northern Tool. Works great with the Vette, but has the strength to handle the wife's mid-sized crossover.

I have this one from Harbor Freight: Aluminum Racing Jack

Used it on my 5500 lbs VW Touareg and Mustang Mach-1 before getting the Corvette and now so thankful I bought the low profile!
Aluminum means 63.8 lbs vs 100+ for the steel ones. Had it about 5 years now and still going strong (just did rotors and pads on the Vette with it).

I no longer use a Harbor Freight jack due to serviceability issues. I used the smallest low profile jack for at least 10 years when it finally failed. I bought a new one that only lasted less than a year. I currently use a low profile jack I got from COSTCO. No matter which jack you get it should be a low profile jack, generally sold as a, "Racing Jack". I really liked the Harbor Freight jack because it was aluminium.

I use the low profile from Harbor Freight myself. Safety, safety, safety, as with any moving part, there is a possibility of part failure. Doesn't matter if it's a $70 jack or $500 jack. Once I get it lifted, I use jack stands or some other less flawless setup of keeping my car up and off of me.

Ditto, I jack it up, place stands, lower onto stands. NEVER get under a car resting solely on a jack...

Yea theres a possibility of failure in any jack regardless of cost, but the possibility is much greater in a $70 jack then a $500 jack. I stress the same thing in all these tool threads. If there are ANY moving parts involved stay away from H/F tools. When you can buy a 12 inch table saw for 19.99 then it should make you wonder just what kind of materials are being used to make that thing..........

Did same thing and it was on sale. You still need to use jack stands on any jack.

Got this one too. Spent some time comparison-shopping before deciding. Good deal at $80 with coupon. Saw their flyer at the store for a 3-day sale coming up with it for same price with no coupon needed.

Match it up with their $60 1.5 ton aluminum jack and you have a decent pair of jacks.

As with buying a vette...."buy the best you can afford" or care to afford.
I ain't buying no $500 floor jack to lift my car 3 times a year. Since "everyone" uses jack stands, there is no physical harm if a $70 jack fails.

Plenty of discussions on the quality of HF tools. Made in China? Yes. But HOW WELL made in China. I bet many of the quality floor jacks discussed are made there too. That $250 Sunex is. That $170 one from Northern Tool is. Both are 2-3 times the HF price with the same lifting specs. Variable to me would be if the hydraulic cylinder is servicable.....but I don't want to rebuild one on ANY jack i buy.

I had a CRAFTSMAN angle grinder that didn't last long, so I will stick with my $9 HF grinder still in service 8 years later.

I had a short lived Craftsman air impact...never again. But won't go HF for air tools either. I am willing to spend more for that category of tool.

I own many "quality" tools....Dewalt Table Saw, Hitachi corded and cordless drills, Skil bandsaw, many Black and Decker....ALL made in China. What are you going to do??

I have the Griot's 2-ton low profile floor jack and it works great with the Vette as well as everything else. I got it some time ago as a gift before I had the Vette when my wife was concerned about the sketchy jack I was using. It has something like a 3" saddle clearance and the saddle can be further removed on the one I have.

I actually like scissors jacks. They are easy to handle and don't take up much room to store. You can get them at harbor freight or get some heavier ones out of an suv or minivan from a junkyard for about 10 bucks each. The ones from Honda vans are very sturdy. Just be sure to protect the rocker panels when jacking at the sides.
