Buying dilemma
Need to ask you for buing advice
Good morning dear members.
I need advice fom you.
my kids hust finished collage, we downsised our house and it’s finally time to get my Corvette.
I have a Big dilemma which car to buy.
I love C5 Z06 red or black, I love C6 2008 and up and also like C3 1969-1972 454 big block .
I like new body stile but the best value would be probably C5 Z06, which I also love.
C3 in great shape especially 1970 would be probably the best investment and you don’t see many of them anymore.
Budget wise woul be around $30,000 but for nice C3 I would steach my budget a little.
I don’t want to spend a lot of money for maintenance, I woul like to enjoy riding it.
What do you guys think???
Do any of you had similar dilema before ???
I know there will be a lot of different opinions but I would like to listen all of you.
Thank you very very much for your advices.
Arthur

If the heads were done on the C5 Z06, that would be a fine car and probably a better car for resale down the road. But, if it has had the heads done, for $30k the mileage will probably be pretty high.
I do not think you would have to stretch your budget much for a C3 at $30k, but it could become a money pit with oil leaks and maintenance issues from the start.
Depending on how the previous owner treated the C6 could be a crap shoot. But, you should be able to get something nice for $30k without too many miles. Looking 2008+ is good because that is when they went to the LS3 motor.
When you start finding more specific cars that you want opinions on, post them here for feedback.

I got rid of it and lost tons of money.
I will have to decide between C5 Z06 or 2008 C6.
Is it more specific now?
Thank you

When I said more specific I mean when you had a particular car in mind that you want feedback on. The year/make/model is too generic kinda like saying, "I like red cars and blue cars, which one should I buy?"

When I will decide between C5 and C6 I will get one with the lowest mileage, around 20,000 miles.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
I'd go for the C5 ZO6.

At a budget of $30k you should be able to find quite a few C6 coupes with reasonable mileage in the 2010 to 2012 model years. Good luck with your search.

Safety Car
the C6 will be the most reliable.you will be able to get in the car and go any where at any time from one end of the country to the other and get great fuel mileage unless you have some really bad luck in the car you choose.have an inspection done on the car you choose.good luck with it

Did you see this lead in story to the forums last week?

NSF
PS for investment the earlier cars like the 1970 454 or LS6 cars
Comfort and modern day niceties, the C-6 and to go further either a GS or Z06

For what its worth, you can also pick up a really nice 2006 or 2007 C6 and be within your price point for a very nice car. I'm not sure why there is a perspective among many on this forum that there is a reason to steer away from the LS2 in pursuit of the LS3. The LS2 is a great engine, with likely more HP than you actually really need, and can also be tweeked up if you really want it to perform closer to that of a Z. Personally I have a '07 Vert that has had a few mods done on it by a previous owner and it now sits at 525HP, and is a rocket to say the least. I would lean towards the C6 market if you are looking to 'play' with the car since I've seen a shortage of options for earlier cars with things like bluetooth, mods, etc....and wouldn't rule out a nice '06 or '07 just because its an LS2.

Melting Slicks
If you plan on using it for long road trips, I would recommend staying away from the C3. I Love the C3 body style, had one as my first Corvette & I had an '82 I fully restored. The ride in both was extremely rough/hard and made for uncomfortable long trips IMO. My wife, who enjoys both Corvettes & road trips, hated the long trips in the C3s as well; we took one in each and she was so sore in the end she refused to do anymore, so we'd take one of our other vehicles. Since owning the C6 we have taken it on several & we both love doing so; when planning trips now her rhetorical question to me is 'we're taking the Vette, correct?'

The entire length of Route 66 would be dicey in a 70 model. Better ride, more comfortable, and more reliable in a C6. And, I just put 7400 miles, this past summer, going out west and doing Rt 66, in a 2007. If you are looking for a bargain, find a low mileage 06 or 07 and don't let the LS2 scare you away. They were, and are, very good, with just slightly less HP than the LS3. Good luck.

Yes, I agree. Newest is the best, least maintenance. Plus you will find many with very low miles. And, newest will yield the best comfort for those long drives. Me: C1, C2, C3, C5, C6. Have fun, good luck.

C3's ride like a truck by modern standards. My '78 Silver Anniversary was a hoot back in the day ~ trying to go back there more recently was a major disappointment.
For a classic, I'd look at a C4 ZR1.
