I have a base '05 low mileage pretty much stock Z51 DSOM in great shape. Friend of mine is involved in a local car show and wants me to enter my car, he's not the first friend that has asked me to do this. Have any of you entered your stock (unmodified) car in any local shows? I keep saying it's just a base Corvette but as we all know they are beautiful cars. Any thoughts or experiences?

As far as car shows go where you register, get judged, and win trophies - I never do. I agree that it's just a stock late model car. I do go to a lot of cruise nights where anything goes as far as cool cars.

I have been doing shows for years with a number of cars, and so many seem to miss the point. The point is not always to get trophies, but to share in the car hobby. Show the car you love, see others' cars, talk cars, share the hobby. The biggest satisfaction is every now and then when you have someone walk up, in love with your car and want to talk to you about it! It is cool when you trophy, but that should not be the focus. If that is your focus, then sell the C6, and go buy a C2.........the point is the sharing of the hobby!

I say detail it, go and have a good time. While stationed in Hawaii, i fully restored an '82 Corvette & had an '87 Callaway I entered in shows all the time and had a blast. I now have a pretty much stock 2006 DSOM, just some minor cosmetic changes I have entered in a few shows; not with any intent on winning any trophies, just to hang out with other enthusiasts, check out other vehicles & have some fun. Was very surprised when at a show in San Diego I received a plaque for best in class.

When I was a young boy, i would register for wrestling tournaments and at times no one would enter my weight class and I would medal by default lol.

Regardless, I would say go register and hang out. Diversity at a car show is a good thing. Sometimes its nice to have a fairly stock car because someone may not be familiar with it and it will really intrigue them to possibly go buy one themselves. a 2005 model car is still 13 years old.

I've done a few shows since I got my base vert about 5 months ago. Before that we've been spectators for years, especially in Florida. Almost anytime of the year, there are 100s of shows around the state!
It's a lot of work getting the car ready, getting to the show early, and for the most part sitting around all day til 3 or 4pm.

Matter of fact, we're going to most likely our last show as a participant this Sunday.

I'd rather go back to being a spectator. I love walking around and talking to owners about their cars, seeing the show and leaving. Then we go out for lunch and go for a nice ride.
Sure, you can walk around if you show your car, but you're still stuck until the end of the show.

I'm going out this morning to wash, wax, and clean the engine compartment and interior of the car, for the Sunday show. Don't get me wrong, I like a clean car, but keeping it almost showroom condition is ridiculous. By Sunday morning when I get there before the show starts, you have to go over the car again!

I'd go to a few shows for the experience, and see if you like it!

Mine isn't unique or rare, so I don't really go to any judging show. I go to a few shows a year (Carlisle about every 3 years) just to check out other cars and talk to other car guys (or gals) about theirs. It is a fun way to occasionally spend an afternoon.

I’ve done a few shows in the past. I don’t really go for the show scene I go to support the local corvette community and club. Its usually 25.00 to get to park with all the other cars and talk about our cars.
I keep my car pretty clean as it is so. If I come home with a trophy even better. I have a few in the garage.

Don't take this wrong, but asking somebody to enter a stock car that isn't unique in any way, sounds like a filler entry.

It’s all about the type of show.

I go to shows all the time, but never show mine cause it ain't nothing special even though it is in show room new condition. Just a typical 2006 Corvette which are a dime a dozen. To me shows are for the guy/gal that spends hours doing some serious wrenching on a vehicle to bring it back to org. life or customizing, which ever may be their thing. When i'm at a show and see a newer model bone stock just off the show room floor anything, i'll walk right by it cause the owner hasn't really done anything cept put a coat of wax on it....and even thats a maybe sometime......

I agree with everything everyone has mentioned. Most of the shows are sponsored by a car club and they pick their member who will win that show and they all vote for that person. Go to check out the cars, support the beneficiary of the event and have fun.

Actually a Corvette is the exact opposite of this line. I go to shows with my 2008 stock, except the chrome wheels, and have fun with the spectators. When a child wants their picture taken in front of it, I ask if they would rather have it taken sitting in the driver seat. The pure joy they show is worth the time. We in the Corvette world forget what a special/unique car it is to others that do not have one.

I've entered several over the last few years. Mine is heavily modified but I have lined up with many other Vettes from the newer gen that were stock. In fact, most are.

I really enjoy talking with the other owners and hanging out.

Most car clubs that I'm aware of, If they sponsor the show, are not allowed to enter. I have been involved in car shows for over 20 years and have never heard of this before. Not saying it doesn't happen, just not here.

I've been to a couple. I don't consider my Corvette to be a show car (daily driver), but it's fun. I usually check the "do not judge" box, so I'm not competing.

Car shows are essentially a cleaning contest, so don't worry about base vs modified. And it's true, you spend all the previous day detailing.

As for being a filler car, so what? It's not much of a car show if there aren't any cars.
