Sorry if I am hijacking this thread...first sorry they screwed you on the repair...agree with others, let us know how it turns out...

I appreciate all of the info on DIY as well.

My base has airbags in the sport seats. I want to recover the seats myself with a black/yellow combo (not looking for arguments on color choices ).

Is this something I can do myself with the airbags involved? Any idea?

yes - side airbags shouldn’t pose a problem. Mine has them & I had no issues removing the skins.

I had the 40dollar seat rebuilt kit installed and at first it was great. A couple or few years later I’d guess...the seats bottom cushion feel as though it has no side bolsters at all and the seat feels like I’m sitting on a flat board..on the floor.

I’m preparing to open up the seat bottom cushion and try again to fix the same issue.

Where did you get the seat bottom cushion in black and is it of a higher density than the stock seat bottom foam from the factory...

These GM seats are now totally unacceptable as they are at this moment.

Ridiculous already

Thanks in advance

Maybe it's me but I don't recall seeing that one in black for the seat bottom either.

At one time pretty long ago, there were two different seat cushion repair kits. One had the jute seat bottom fabric plus the foam. I'm not sure there are two any longer and I've not seen one for the back or upright portion of the seat.

Seat cushion pad part #19330721 $67.67
Seat back pad part #19330722 $75.57

Both are black foam and appear a little denser than my stock seat foam, however, that could be because they are brand new. I did notice on the new back pad there are extra cloth pieces inside the side bolsters where on my stock foam, the plastic of the seat back had worn through. I also put some felt & duct tape on the curvature of the plastic seat back where it fits into the foam to hopefully avoid it wearing through the new foam. I did the same on the metal seat rails before putting on the new seat foam bottom. Btw - my seats only have 30k miles on them (I've only owned the car for 8 months & put 2k miles on it.

The company making the $39.95 seat repair kits is alive and well. They sell the kits wholesale to many other vendors as well as on eBay. I met the owner of the company and sales are up.

I sat in a friend's C7 the other day. The seat was so much more comfortable than my C6. It was like night and day.

I am trying to see if I can adjust my seat to a more comfortable position with the new foam.

The credit card company would not issue a credit for the work performed by the first upholsterer. They requested a letter from an expert in the field written on company letterhead stating why the original work was shoddy. The second upholsterer did not want to get involved in the dispute. The repair order was not enough for the credit card company.

I know a lot of people would do this work themselves, but lack of an adequate work area and some physical ailments prevented me from doing the work myself.

I have no idea what is wrong with the OP's seat based on the write up and what little I know about upholstery.

Don't feel badly. Not everyone has the skill, the physical ability or the time to do some of these things. That goes for z06clif, too. I'd much rather see the helpful suggestions as to where products can be gotten at a reduced price than chastising someone for their not getting the great deal on parts, or having to use a for-profit biz to do the work. Just me and my opinion tho.
