Why do you guys refer to the standard Corvette model as “base”?

Haha, come in guys, I thought some of you'd pick up on the semantics and correlation of using the term base and comparing it the silliness of saying pre owned or used. My comment really had nothing to do with whether or not the car was bought new.

I refer to them as either a narrow body or a wide body.

Well lets get even more precise. Maybe the base could be considered the bottom tier of the Corvette line. Then one can add options on top of what the base comes with. Like a base coat of paint....then other coats are put on top of that to get the finished product as the owner desires..... And I do like how the usual "Base Blasters" (you know who you are) are trying to keep somewhat civil in this thread.....but for how long.....HE HE. Regardless.....let us not forget that the base is faster !!!!!......

I even note a bit of disdaine when referencing these cars that are neither Z06 or Grand Sport models. i’ve been away from the Corvette scene for a few years and of the 15 or so Vettes I have owned all but 3-4 were vintage models. My reentry into the Corvette ranks is a ‘05 convertible Z51 six speed that now has just over 14,000 miles on its LS2 engine. Red with black top and interior.
The term “base” to me conjures up images of the old 210 Chevy line. Usually a straight 6 three speed and might have a heater. Probably no radio or sunvisors. School me please on why a $60,000+ sports car with a 400 hp engine and suspension to match is a “base” model. Never mind the nav system, power top and a host of other options.
I’ve owned a solid axle fuelie, several mid years, big block C3’s, a couple of C4’s and C5’s. NONE of these were the car the current car is. Standard body? Yes. Base? Frankly I have a hard time with that term as applied to the standard body C6.

the reason we call the C6 a Base Model is it sounds better than "Entry Level"

This is the 'base' Corvette, from there you add options (2LT, 3LT, Z51 packages) or you move to a different version (the GS, ZO6 & ZR1). So, to refer to one with the 3LT & Z51 packages as a 'base' Corvette, is a misnomer. As far as me, I refer to narrow bodies as Corvettes, Grand Sports as Grand Sports, ZO6s as ZO6s and, you got it, ZR1s as ZR1s.

I just refer to mine as a Z51, it sounds impressive and most people have no idea what the hell it means, LOL.
Also I know I am in the minority but I prefer the narrow body but a 427 under the hood would be nice!

How else can you refer to it in conversation...cheapest, low-level, starter model, etc. Most manufacturers refer to their bottom level as "entry-level", or "base".
I have a "cheapest version" 3LT, doesn't bother me calling it base.

Whether I'm talking to someone who knows little to nothing about Corvettes or a fellow owner/enthusiast, I simply refer to it as a Corvette. If the person who knows little about them, has seen a wide body and asks what the difference is, I explain those are the Corvette GS', ZO6s & ZR1s. If I'm talking to a fellow owner/enthusiast and say I have a Corvette, they will (should) automatically know it's not a wide body. This is because anyone who owns a GS, ZO6 or ZR1 will normally refer to it as such. I have never been in any discussion about my car or Corvettes in general where I've ever had to call or refer to mine ('narrow bodies') as anything other then a Corvette.
