Active Handling did its thing. From page 3-57 in the manual:

ACTIVE HANDLING

This message displays when the Active Handling System is operating. The Active Handling System is a computer controlled system that assists the driver in controlling the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. You may feel or hear the system working and see the ACTIVE HANDLING message displayed in the DIC. This message stays on for a few seconds following the active handling event. This is normal when the system is operating. See Active Handling System on page 4-7 and Braking on page 4-4.

Probably spun your tires and active handing saved you from losing control.

This is 100% true. Drive carefully, slow down and take it easy in adverse conditions. The car did what it supposed to do and didn't let you lose control and spin out.

Please sell your car immediately....before you hurt yourself or someone else. I am sorry but you have no business owning a fast car if you don’t know what traction control or how to turn on off, etc.

THIS is Normal. Nothing to worry, get used to driving a Corvette.

When making a 90-degree turn, I don't step on the gas too hard. Car has a lot of power; almost every tire will break loose for a bit - that's when Active handling kicks in to save your a$$. Be gentle on the gas - realize these cars have more power than your driving skills or tires can handle. If you remember that, you'll be safe.

P.s: just for comparison to most average cars - recently I was going up a very steep hill in triple digits (my speedometer may be malfunctioning The point is, these are fast cars).

Treat the accelerator as a dimmer switch and not an on/off switch and you will be just fine.

Yep speedo malfunctioning is a very common problem with Vettes. It plagued all models from C3 and up. Darn GM!!

I get that warning almost every time I drive and flick the back end with the gas.

I should drive it in Competitive mode- Then I wouldn't have the nanny and could kick it a little more.

Be glad that you have a car equipped with active handling. I'm alive today thanks to that system on an Audi only they call their system ESP for electronic stability program. A few years ago I nearly T Boned a pickup truck at 70 mph on a rural road on my way to a resort community.

The pickup was pulled over and as I got close I could see the driver was looking at a map. Without checking his mirror or looking over his shoulder he did a U turn right into my path taking up both lanes. I stood on the brakes with all of my might and swerved around the front of him while having the driver side wheels on gravel and the passenger side wheels on pavement. I don't think I had more than an inch to spare when I got around him it seemed so close.

There were a lot of growling noises going on as it was doing its thing and a pulsating vibration in the brake pedal, I was amazed that the car remained under control as I was expecting a high speed rollover into the ditch that didn't happen.

What is the date code on the tires? If they are more than 5 years old they likely lost a lot of their traction ability.

Check out the ANSI site. It's not a commercial Web site; it's a real engineering database.
