Default New tires

I’m having Discount Tire replace tires on my 06 vert. I asked about lifting it & they said they open doors, trunk & hood before jacking with low clearance jacks using my pucks.

I have never heard about opening door trunk hood. Why is this needed?

You might want to change your tire sensors, they are aging, and getting ready to fail.
Last Sept, replaced my tires and sensors on my 2005.

I would expect that opening the doors would make it more likely for the chassis to flex. These cars may be stiff enough that it doesn't make a difference.

I don't think you have had to worry about frame flex since the C3. Certainly not with a C6.

I've never heard of this. Makes no sense. I swap summer/winter tires on my cars twice a year myself, never did that. Seems one would want all closed to be stiffer? I had a convertible for a while and no difference.

The last vette needed was the C4 to open doors before lifting . My 94 needed that, you could almost watch it flex and if you didn't open them it would have the doors out of alignment for awhile but they would return to normal after short period

Then your ‘94 had other issues. I spent many years regularly performing dozens of tire, brake pads, rotors, etc swaps on my ‘90 and ‘96, a friends ‘96, and another friend’s ‘94 before, during, and/or after track days. I never open the doors, hood, or top. I did the same on my ‘78 and my ‘80. Never had an issue opening or closing doors while they were on jack stands.

This is an old wives tale that lives on.

I told them the same thing too.

It's an 'old school' throwback to early Vettes, probably early C3's or older.

I agree that the doors don’t need to be opened. I was changing the oil last week & had the car on jack stands. The frame is so stiff, I noticed one of the stands was not in contact with the frame. There is no flex on this car. I will tell them to not open the doors.
