where is the oil pan hole for the dipstick?
No jokes about me being the dipstick, okay?
I got what I wanted done in my Z06 exhaust conversion, and the last thing I am doing is trying to reinstall the dipstick. It had to be removed to get to the manifold bolts.
Problem is, I can't see anything I am doing. By feel, I located a hole in the top of the pan, pretty much below the starter. Seems like it would be the correct location, but the dipstick will not pass by several wire looms, and the large, round insulation just next to the starter. I had a friend hold the dipstick up top, and I tried to guide into the hold I am referring to. I could not get the body of the 'stick past the wires, or around the silver cylinder of insulation next to the starter.
Where is the dipstick hole, and how do you put the darn thing back where it belongs????
thanks.

I'm going to resist making a joke about not being able to find the hole....

The picture is kind of hard to see what's going on, but you're in the right place. It's right behind the starter.
It can be hard to get it back in place with only one person working from the top. Sometimes it's easier to get it in the general area then get back under the car to find the hole. Might have to twist the dip stick tube around to guide it base all of the obstacles.

Quit looking on the pan, 'cause the hole you want is in the block. It's about an inch to the rear and 45* down from the knock sensor bolt.
Put the dipstick in the tube and let about an inch hang out the bottom. Then feed the tube down on the angle, starting from the finish location shown on the far right side of this pic. Note the bolt that attaches the tube bracket to the head.

The hole is in the block flange in front of the starter, not the oil pan. I can't find it just fishing around from the top. I start it on top, then seat it from underneath.

Or...find someone near you with a ZO6 and politely ask, show me your hole...
Then duck. It does sound like a pain to find. Might need ramps.

Bruze, I took a break and had a couple beers. Still can't find it. I find one hole near the end of the starter, but felt all over and could not find another. I'm serious, I don't know how the one hole I found could be it, as the 'stick would have to be bent like a pretzel to get into it.

Got to ask, but did you convert the ZO6 over to a wet sump system?
If the motor is still a dry sump system, then the dip stick is in the tank, since the shallow dry sump pan is kept with min of oil in it isntead. Hence motor running and there is only about a half Quart of oil in the dry sump pan that the pump/pick up tube has not pulled out yet that is falling off the bottom of the motor. When you shut the motor down, them maybe about a 1 quart of oil once the last of the oil has dripped down from the motor (since the pump is not turning to suck it up and send it to the tank instead).

Well, buddy, you got me good. Normally, I am one who goes straight to the gutter. However, I was so stressed in this situation, it went right over my head. Perhaps the two (now three) beers did not help.
Honestly, I worked on it for about two hours and could not get it done. I am taking the car in tomorrow or Tuesday for the wrap up on the exhaust, and will see if someone in the their shop can get it done.
If not, I have a friend who works at a Chevy dealer, and he can do it. I always dread taking a car there, though, because you get the service writer telling you about all the things the car needs, or it is going to die a sudden death in 10 days.

If, no I definitely remember correctly, I had one hellofa time getting mine back in after doing my headers and then the bolt for the hanger was another bugger to get lined up, in fact some one just posted about having to grind a little off the hanger tab after doing his headers.
Keep at it Buckester, you'll get it, If I can do it anyone can

As stated, find the knock sensor on the bottom of the block above the oil pan, and you will see the port for the dip stick tube just to the left.

Follow HOXXOH instructions, as you feed the dipstick down at 45* angle, try aligning the bracket bolt as close as possible. There will be some resistance until you have the correct angle. I got under the car using a telescopic mirror to see the hole and align the tube into the hole.
I did this a few months back when I pulled the dipstick on my LS3 to check bolt tightness on the installed Z06 exhaust manifolds. Next time I will just use an open end wrench and leave the tube alone.
