Rear Hatch Strut Replacement
I need to replace the rear hatch struts on my 06 Corvette. I bought a couple of struts from Amazon which I need to send back because they were not long enough.
Anyway, my question is how do I get these electrical connectors and brackets (See the photos) transferred to the new struts??? Or, will the new struts come with the connectors already installed?
This is the top of one of the hatch struts.
This is the bottom of one of the hatch struts.
Anyway, my question is how do I get these electrical connectors and brackets (See the photos) transferred to the new struts??? Or, will the new struts come with the connectors already installed?

The new struts (at least Delco/GM ones) come with the electrical blade connectors installed. Just pull the little C-clips off the old ones, disconnect the electrical connector, and the old strut pops off. Reverse the procedure for the new ones. Make sure somebody is holding the hatch up for you (or put a 2x4 in to hold it up). Took me ten minutes (and half of that was finding a 2x4).
The are for the rear window defroster.

Sorry to bring this thread back but how the hell do you get the black retaining clips back on? Came off easy with small flat blade screwdriver but without prying them open to a level of being destroyed I can't figure it out.
Thanks

If the struts don't come with the connector, the ones from your old struts can be removed by unscrewing the plastic holder on that end.
The clip doesn't have to removed completely, just enough to allow the holder to slip off the ball for removal.
To install, the clip can be pushed in all the way, and it can be pushed on the ball.

I went and completely removed the clip on one end if the strut. Now I see how it could be difficult to get back on.
Here is how I got it back in place. Using needle nose pliers with tape on them so as to not scratch the clip, I held one side of the clip with the pliers, then I rotated the clip and pushed the open end into the slot in the plastic. Once that end was in the slot, I stretched the clip using the pliers until it could he pushed down into the slit on the other side. Done. Pushed the end of the strut back in the ball.
