85 ft-lb is crazy. It was simply installed wrong. No reason to do this. Nor would it tighten over heat cycles. I've changed my own oil on other cars with either steel or aluminum drain pans and never had that happen. Nor did I ever have a filter loosen, so must have been just hand tightened.
