vent mount cell phone cradle, fail
I got tired of not having access to my cup holders for beverages, so I bought one of those vent mounted cell phone cradles. It seemed to be working OK. However, I was concerned that the cradle with the cell phone seemed a bit heavy as all the weight was supported by just one vent louver. The other night, I was hitting it hard on the expressway when the car hit a dip in the road surface. The dip caused a little too much stress and the louver supporting the weight detached from whatever it was attached to. So, now I have a couple of louvers that kind of dangle (crap! @*$&#!)
Here is the device I bought and which also did a number on my vent louvers. I am not trashing this product. I suspect any other product would have also jacked up my vent louvers. It was the combination of weight and the force applied to the single louver that was the issue.
How can the louver be fixed, if at all?

That sucks. I used the vent mounted holders for a while, but the ones I used clipped to the top louver & had adjustable supports that rested on the bottom of the vent. Still didn't fully trust them & worried about exactly what happened to you; so I switched over to ProClip holders in both my Corvette & Camaro and magnetic clips in my wife's CUV (1 For phones, 1 for her Garmin).

I know this is a novel idea, but put the phone away whilst driving?

Actually, I use the phone via bluetooth for music, navigation, and answering calls. My car does not have built in Bluetooth, and I have not yet added an after market head unit to this car. More importantly, I want to phone away from the cup holder in case there is a spill. I want that expensive phone away from sugary drinks.
There are lots of good reasons for wanting the phone in a usable position in the car

That picture has my old S7 edge in a case in it, I now have the S8 Edge in an case; no problems with either slipping. If yours is in a case, be sure to order the adjustable holder for the Samsung phone. That's what I have and besides accommodating the phone in a case, I didn't have to order a new holder when I upgraded my phone, I just readjusted the holder.

I ordered a ProClip for my wife's suv. They are a little pricey but definitely work well.

No. One part of the Mount slips into the space between the bezel and head unit & AC controls, the other part has 2-sided 3M tape that adheres to the outside edge of bezel. I suggest dry fitting first to determine where you want to position the mount. Takes about 5 minutes, if that, to actually install

I ordered the ProClip for my Vette and have been quite happy with it! However, the other day I opened up the head unit to swap in the updated Nav DVD and the screen hit the phone as it swung open. Will have to see if the ProClip can be adjusted to avoid that from happening in the future.
