Default Baffeled at Corvette insurance rates

Hey guys, I've been looking into getting a base C6 (ls2) and today asked my insurance company how the price would differ. I got an answer that really suprised me.

I have Nationwide and will be insuring my 1988 Chevy Silverado (86,000 miles) with just liability and my 2000 Ford Taurus (226,000 miles) with full coverage. They said as is, it is $86 per month. But if I were to sell the Taurus and replace it with an 06 base model Corvette, with the same coverage options, it would be $70 per month.

I'm in North Carolina, and my girlfriend found a map with the everage cost to insure Corvettes per state. We were one of the lowest but the rate still baffels me.

Do you guys know any reason this would be true? It's hard for me to find a reason this would happen.

Thanks,
Steven

The insurance on my C-6 is cheaper than on my wife's Honda Accord from the same year. When I had a BMW Z-4 3.0i convertible and my wife had a Honda Civic Hybrid, the BMW insurance was cheaper.

My 2010 GS costs less to insure than my 2000 F-250 and my wife's 2014 Mazda. And it's only slightly more than my 2007 Harley Ultra.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went shopping for Vette' insurance.

It's obviously dependent on a lot of factors. My insurance company weighs more heavily on Credit Score than others, however, they are always the lowest available across multiple companies. I also have homeowners insurance, 2 other vehicles, and 2 motorcycles. However, full coverage for the Z was still reasonably cheaper than I anticipated. Also, it was about $350 cheaper per year than my girlfriend's '17 WRX.

I'd definitely agree though, I was very surprised when I initially requested a quote a few months back.

It's statistics. Corvettes are largely owned by older men who rarely drive them. They have lower rates of claims than cars that younger people tend to buy.

It was a major reason I bought my first, it was 100 bucks a month cheaper than a 370z.

My insurance agent told me the rates are low due to a bunch of factors. One of which being that Corvettes are rarely stolen and also not wrecked often. So that plays into the rate.

I was surprised as well, and so was the insurance agent when I called. My wife and I have full coverage on three vehicles; '05 Magnum, '05 Sonata, and our '11 GS. The GS is $20 cheaper than the Magnum and $5 more than the Sonata.

Have the same full coverage on all 3 vehicles and the Corvette is the cheapest, insurance agent gave the same reasons for the rates being lower.

I figured it had to be statistics causing it. The older people, occasional drivers, ect. work in our favor.

My rates would bear that out, too. It became cheaper for my '11 vette than it was for the 08' Caddy that I was driving before, and the Caddy was worth resale about 1/5 of what the vette was worth. I asked the agent why, and she said they see fewer claims for Corvettes - wrecked, stolen, or otherwise.

My agent told me being 55 , driving it for pleasure , multi-car discount , our record and zone are the big factors . Really reasonable , compared to our Cadillac SRX and two Silverado crew cab pickup trucks .

I have collector insurance for my C6. $421 per year. My other cars are more than twice this amount.

One guy enjoying his Vette isn't going to affect the statistics. Enjoy many miles of smiles. I plan on doing the same.
