Default Rear Axle drain plug removal

There is no room to remove it. The Fiberglass spring is right on top of it. 2010 base model.

It's an unimaginable pain in the **** for certain years. I have a 2009 Z51 and it was not easy to access at all. Other years are cake frim what I understand. I think it all depends on which diff you have.

Use a ball hex extension. Piece of cake.

I thought they had moved the drain plug in 2006??

At any rate, you can try a ball-end hex-head but that did not work for me. The plug was way too tight. So I decided to get the spring out of the way. It isn't hard, just adds a bit of time. Watch the first part of this video.

Had the same problem when I did the gear oil change on my '05. Solution was a 3/8" hex key....cut a bit off the short end so it would clear the spring & fit the drain plug. Then a piece of pipe to provide leverage on the long end. Another option is to cut a short piece of hex rod (maybe 1 inch) to fit the drain plug & then use a box or open end wrench to remove the plug.
