Default Corvettes with the transparent roof.

Thinking hard about getting a transparent roof off of eBay...does anybody have any pictures or experience with this product? It's an official GM part and seems cool.

I just question how a transparent roof would look on silver...seems like a better fit for a red, black, or white car.

Thanks

I had a body colored top (Red) and a transparent top on my previous C6. I live in Florida so the transparent top made the interior far too hot in the summer. I used the painted top in the summer and transparent top in the "winter". It was cool having two different looks. The transparent top is also lighter than the painted one.

I think the transparent roof would look great on silver. Just be wary of crazing. I would check to make sure the one you're buying shows no signs of it. Mine started to develop the issue a few months before I sold the car. Here's a thread with some info:

I have the transparent top and love it. It appears black from the outside, kinda 'blueish' when looking through from the inside. It does transmit additional heat, so if you are in a summer climate, that's something to consider. But I leave the top off on most summer days. I also use a 'liner' occasionally on the inside. I wrapped the halo in black and tinted the back glass. I love the look.

I love mine on Atomic Orange. Got it from a member here last November and it's been on ever since. It's a little more road noise but much more bright and airy and easier to lift off for open air motoring.
Highly recommended.

Yes, It looks good on a Blade Silver Corvette. If you use it in the summer time, buy a headliner with suction cups or at least make sure your A/C is in trip or better yet both.

I have one, love it. As someone above mentioned, it appears black from the outside.

During the summer when parked in the sun I leave the windows open, so when I get back in it isn't like getting into a greenhouse. I'll drive for a moment or two with the windows open to drive out the excess heat.

It's also great driving it at night with the moon out.

I like the look of the transparent top over the body colored option. It breaks up a sea of color and creates a nice contrast. There are inserts that can be purchased to cut down on the sun/heat. Plus, it looks super cool from the inside when driving in the rain as well as at night.

IMO the transparent top looks better than the painted top. I live in Florida and I purchased the "solar top shade" from WCC. (item # 37170050.) It really cuts down on the heat and still allows the sun to shine in.

Mine ('08) came with just the transparent top (according to build codes on glovebox sticker). I have it on year-round in FL, never take it off, it has a cling-type liner with little round holes in it that lets some light through and offers some visibility out, and keeps it very comfortable even in noon day sun. The top also has a ton of fine swirling surface crazing in the coating . My body shop said they can refinish it, smoke it, and clear it with a flexible UV-resistent clearcoat that won't craze again, for $500. I was also thinking they could paint it almost opaque with a very dark almost-black midnight blue and I might not need the liner. But that that price I'm also considering getting a regular top in black (car is red) which would look the same from the outside. I'm just thinking I might feel like in a coffin after all this time with the clear top.

My C6 came with both tops and I'm glad it did. You get 3 different looks to the car. Topless, painted top or clear top. As easy as it is to swap them it gives you the 3 different looks.

Our C6 came with both as well. I like the look with the glass top, but as said before it heats up the car quicker.

If buying used, consider this. Many used painted tops are selling without the latches/hardware. Not sure if the same issue with trans tops.

Make sure the top you are buying has the latches....some sellers don't mention it. Look closely at any pics.

I have the transparent roof option on a Victory Red C-6 and I do not have the painted top. I love the clear top and believe the car looks better too.

...it will look fine, it may end up being a bit to warm for you in NC during the summer months. I only use mine in the winter months.

When I saw the ad for my car on cargurus it didn’t say anything about a clear top. Was so happy to see it on the car when I got there.

Here's my 2006 on the day I bought it, and how it looks now, with the black halo.
I think it looks better the black halo.

Also the Z06 wheels, the spoiler, exhaust, brake work and maybe tinting I think.
