My wife & I did something under 6,000 mile round trip driving from Wisc. to Cali. and back home to Wisc. about a year ago. '08 A6 and got 27.8 mpg. No, i didn't take it easy. Had some triple digit speeds here and there.

So I know there is nothing wrong with my cars and they are totally stock. I have never ever got anything close to the numbers you guys are getting and I think you have no clue what city driving really is. Most of my trips are short, 5-8 miles and there is a stoplight on just about every other corner. I rarely get into third gear. In these circumstances which in my mind is REAL city driving I get 10-12mpg, tops, and that is babying the cars. On the highway I do get the advertised mileage of about 26-28mpg at 65-70 miles per hour.

While were at it what do you guys consider city driving? Driving on back roads before you get to the highway with hardly any stoplights is not considered city driving. I can hardly get above 25-30 mph where I live than I have to stop again for a light. All you guys who are claiming 18-20 in city driving are not driving in a real city environment.

not sure of what the others are basing their figures on, but my 18-19mpg are a combination city & highway. if it was just city only, I would guess it to be in the low teens as well.
when I do fill up, I always reset my trip meter. for the usual city / hwy driving, I get a tank estimate of 300-350 miles.
on my last road trip, this figure made to almost 600 miles!
like always, this figures will vary.

It's always above 20.0 mpg. 21 to 22 is seen a lot and on road trips it may bump up to 26 mpg.
I've been half heartedly thinking I may switch to a Cadillac V Coupe, but I think I'd give up a lot on mileage.
Then I drive the Vette again and I forget about the V Coupe.

in regards to city driving, I consider that stop and go with lights all over. I drive through one rural town then highway then suburban town then interstate and finally stop and go traffic in Savannah, GA. Back home is just the opposite and my commute is anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours one way depending on traffic. As per my original post, I get 20.0 average. My commute sucks but at least it's more fun in the vette.

Being extremely **** retentive, I have tracked mpg since I bought my car new some 11 years ago. For the life of the car, average is 22.4 mpg with a mix of 40% city and 60% highway. Over the years, high was 32 on a long freeway trip and a low of 18 mpg when I was driving shall we say a wee bit more aggressively (and at triple digit speeds) Best mileage of anything else in my garage!

Really, my first Vette ever a year and a half ago, 2009 C6 base, have never checked the mileage yet. A'int why I bought it. I'm sure a Prius beats it by a little.

I use 'D' most of the time.Read post #47 and that is like my trips.I haven't been on the freeway for a few months for testing because of the Hot humid weather so i would think now, like today with a very high dew point i would maybe get around 27 mpg at 75 mph on a 40 mile loop 20 miles NW and 20 miles SE back home.....I do have a custom grind Comp cam,LTs,Borla Stringers and a custom tune.In the spring i take the same drive and i see 29 to 30 mpg at 75 mph on cruise control on a flat road.My tune needs to be adjusted because i put a V-Max TB on it after it was tuned on a Dyno about five years ago.

Hwy - 22-24.
I thought I was the only one.... so paranoid playing with my Vitesse throttle control, hoping that it wouldn't ruin my mpgs.
