Default Swirls got to go!

So after washing the Corvette today I was putting on some detail spray when it just got to me. I did all this work just to see these damn swirls in the paint. How much would it run me to get a shop to do a professional job on it? Versus how much work/time/product would to cost to do it on my own?

Last year at a car show I made a purchase from the Adams rep and purchased the large long throw polisher polishing pads and polishes as well as detail spray and a clay bar. Starting with a wash followed by a clay bar then a polish with Adams finishing polish and a coat of wax. The swirls were gone and the car looked like a mirror. The whole process took me an whole Saturday but it was worth it and what it probably would have cost me to have a professional detailer do it probably ccovered the cost of most of the equipment and supplies that I will have for next time.

Just pay $100 for a griots orbital polisher and contact detailed domain for advice on which products to buy. They sell both the polisher and the products. They are a supporting vendor here.

i have a daily driver c6 that I have put 122k since I bought it new.

I orefer the one step product from mierizer ..(spelling is wrong)

i wash the car as i I normally would. Then dry. Then I put a quarter size of the product on the orbital polisher pad...

i do each panel...then wait about a half an hour and remove...

the cars beautiful.

call the guys over at detailed domain..

they em will probably have a sale starting a few days before the Fourth of July so just mention you want the sale price...

usually 10 percent or so off..

good time to invest in the orbital polisher...the pads and the product...

afams products from detailer domain are excellent but usually jnvolve three steps three steps per panel.

works great but since I have 122k miles on my c6...I recently decided a one step process is where my heads at...

detailer domain has specials and can guide you...

good luck...

i knock the car out in an hour or so...

i do it every six months ...car looks excellent...I get a ton of complements and no one believes I have 122k miles on it.

black is I have to say a ridiculous color but it does look dam good.

Had the same problem with my Camaro and while I was looking for a solution I found TriNova Scratch and Swirl Removal. It had some really good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a try. Here's the process I used:

1) Washed using Dawn & Water
2) Clay bared it; I used the Mequiare's clay bar
3) Used the TriNova as directed, I did an approximate 2'X2' area at a time
4) Waxed.

Cost me around $40 for the TriNova and Mequiare's, everything was done by hand and took me around 5 hours from start to finish. IMO the results were amazing, but I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I took before and after pics of the two worst areas; the before were taken after clay baring and the car was not moved between the before and after so the lighting is the same, I also tried to shoot both from close to the same angles.

Shop price, $250-$500+ depending on depth of the defects. Then once you correct it, you want to coat it or put PPF on. That way the work is preserved and you do not pay again in a year or so when swirls start coming back.

Definitely look into some paint protection stronger than wax!

I had to use a buffer, very easy to use a buffer to get the nasty swirls, also used a swirl removal.
It's always good to practice on the wife's car when she isn't around!

What buffer do you have? I have the PC 7424XP which I hope to use in the near future. Results speak for themselves! Great work!

Look into the Zentool ZEN-21E2 Dual Action Polisher. It has a long throw 21MM orbit that makes for much faster work. I am in the market for a new buffer as well. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. Would love to hear other's thoughts.

Help an old school fart out here. Just what is a "Long Throw" polisher ?? Is this some new term for a tool thats been around for years....kinda like "Buffing" is now called "Correction"?.......

Most standard dual action (DA) polishers have an orbit throw of 5 to 8 MM. A long throw DA polisher has a longer orbit throw (15-21MM give or take). All other things being equal, the long throw DA polisher will make faster work of paint correction as there is more movement of the pad.
Since it is still a DA polisher, it is safer for the paint than a rotary buffer in untrained hands, but will remove material faster than a standard DA polisher so one should use a little more caution if choosing this route.

My .02............I just finished using Meguairs 105 on a Lake Country Orange Pad using a Porter Cable 7424XP to remove most of the clear coat scratches
in my 2012 Grand Sport. I then followed up with Meguairs 205 on a White Pad (6"). I plan to use a Sealant and a Wax but have not yet.....

Anybody reading this bought/used the HArbor Freight Orbital which looks to be a knock off of the Porter Cable at 1/2 the cost ???

I buy my supplies from the DetailedImage.com. They have many articles there on polishing etc etc

OH....OK.....learn something new every day. I guess another way to put it is that it has a bigger "Orbit".....LOL......

Is there a store where I can go buy a good buffer and pads at such as Target or Walmart? I'd rather not wait for shipping I kind of want to get it done soon.

Advanced/O’Reilly’s usually has a Griot’s 6” DA Polisher and they should also carry M205. If not, a DA and M205 can be found at Harbor Freight. Be warned, I have had 2 HF DA’s take a dump on me.

I also have a PC DA and a different 21mm throw DA. I also use my rotary a good bit for depth in the clear coat!

This car is also Ceramic Coated with IGL Kenzo.
