is the C6 a great upgrade over the C5?

I had an 02 vert with sport suspension. Rode around in 'tour' mode most of the time and thought it had a wonderful ride. And, I guess I'm swimming upstream on this one, but I actually liked the 'rubbermaid' interior, especially in black. Also seemed to have more room for me than my current C6 (2011 GS Vert), though not by a lot. (Having said that, the C6 is also roomier than the C7, especially for big goobers like myself. My C7 Z06 was so tight for me, I actually reverted back to the C6).
A couple of things the C5 had that I miss in the C6 are the ability to read DTC codes in the DIC and the Top Down Technologies gizmo has less functionality. Neither are biggies tho.
With headers, x-pipe, Corsa exhaust, and Vararam, I honestly didn't feel the LS1 was giving up all that much to a C6 in day to day driving, at least prior to the LS3. I'm sure I might lose by a nose in a real race, but my butt seat meter enjoyed it all the same.
Love my GS (I think it's the prettiest Corvette ever made - seriously), but I could still be happy in a C5 if I had to. At least during the daytime - the headlights weren't so great. ha
Good luck with your purchase. I think you'll find the C6 to be a very fun and dependable ride. Enjoy
