using a jack on a c6 grand sport
The users manual shows specific points to use when jacking up the car. Yet I see a lot of parts places show "Jacking pad/pucks" that go in the frame of the car on the sides. What is the correct way to jack the car up?

The side locations and use of pucks is to put it up on rack. Must use puck of some kind or risk (cracking rocker panel). I find if removing one wheel a puck and floor jack works fine at puck location. Better to use floor jack and cross beam if raising front or rear..........................https://www.harborfreight.com/steel-...eam-60762.html
I used 2 pieces of 2x8 screw as cross beam and low profile floor jack. you might still have to drive up on boards to get to front locations with jack.

I could be wrong but I don’t see you using anything like that on the front period. There’s not a chance in h#ll it’s happening on my car.!Rear yes but front no.

This is my favorite pic of the C6 lift points. Stolen from another member here but since it has not been posted yet, here it is.

My question would be...are you wanting to jack up the whole car, just the front, rear, or one side? Different methods and places for each, although you could use the side lifting points to do them all, but if you are just wanting the front or rear, no need to do each side.
If lifting the rear of car, use a 2x8 or 2x10, about 2 1/2-3 feet long on top of your jack. Put wood under complete rear end, centering jack. Same on front (good luck with this as it is very tight). If jacking from the side of the car, use some sort of puck in the correct places to keep from damaging rocker panels.

Wouldn't you then support the sides of the wood with jack stands, then remove the jack and thusly the obstruction? I'm a noob, only had my C6 a month and haven't jacked it yet, but if you're under your car supported by just a hydraulic jack, that might make you a special kind of human chosen by natural selection.

It really amazes me, and slightly terrifies me, how many people will put a car up on a jack without stands. A jack is for lifting the car, not laying under it! Invest in a good set of jackstands they are not that expensive and they will last a lifetime, and that lifetime may even get extended because of them.

So if you put a piece of wood across the cross member, and jack from the center, can you then place jack stands at the ends of the cross member under the wood?
Can you use a jack stand under the outer jacking points or is it best to leave this for jacking only? My problem is I can't get my jack under the outer jack points so would have to drive the car up on blocks for one end. I have an oil change coming up so want to figure out how best to jack the front, and I plan to change the mufflers so figuring out the rear as well. I do have ramps so can back the car up onto those for the exhaust.
To that end, I have a friend who's uncle died from being crushed under a jacked car.

When you say that jacking from the center would interfere with changing the exhaust what other conclusion can one come too? If you’re using stands what difference does it make where the car is jacked, you can place the jack stand anywhere.
