I've had multiple Optima batteries in different vehicles and never had ANY issues. My yellow top is 7 years old so I don't agree with your theory. One of my recent new vehicles didn't even make it out of the showroom delivery without having the AC Delco battery replaced so you get bad no matter what manufacturer.

Nothing to do with Optima's quality. They're just overpriced and underpowered. They have features that are of no use to a normal street car owner. For example, do you need to mount the battery sideways? Are you going to subject it to high g-force vibration by going offroad? No. So you're paying for stuff that you don't need and can't use. You paid around $240 for a battery with 730 cold cranking amps. I can go to Home Depot and pick up a car battery for $109 that has 950 CCA's and a 40 month warranty, vs. Optima's 36 month warranty.

Most expensive does not always equal best.

I believe someone earlier said it but aside from Optima batteries with the gel acid there are only a few companies that actually manufacture batteries. They may have difference casing store to store but the same companies make them and just change the mold to retail brands so there isnt a difference in quality between wal-mart, autozone, advanced auto, etc.

With that said I would let price and warranty be the driving factors. Also I would check the manufacture sticker on he battery before purchasing. I worked at advanced auto for a few years and it’s not uncommon for a few batteries to sit on the shelf’s for months. Definitely check the full stock and get the one with the newest date.

We buy what we want regardless of what others say or think. You buy what you prefer and I’ll do the same. It’s what makes the world a satisfying place....for the most part.

I think that's what Hyundai drivers tell themselves too.

People used to buy Gremlins, Yogos and Pacers. Didn’t bother me then, doesn’t bother me now. Perfect example of people buying what they want.

All batterys are programed to last the day you need it . I used Home Depot the last time. Rated high until you place it in the car. Being a battery expert ,if you purchase a four year replace it prior to that date.I would go were you can return it quickly if you have a warranty issue,

And that’s the risk of buying anything at what appears to be a really good price. Might be a good buy with a good warranty only to find out you have to change it while under warranty...repeatedly.

Isn't that what you said about your OEM battery as well?

I sure did and I never make the same mistake twice. No AC Delco batteries for me.

Who said anything about repeatedly? Anyway, at $109, compared to $300 for your optima yellow top, I have 30% more power, more reserve time at 25 amps, a longer warranty, and if I was that worried about the warranty I actually have ten years of warranty since I could just buy a new battery every 3.3 years. And I wouldn't have the quality issues of a battery made in Mexico.

I thought the whole idea of the Ultimas was that they're sealed so they don't leak battery acid on the computer and wiring right below them.

Yes, they are AGM (absorbant glass matt) batteries that prevent acid from leaking from the battery. That's the primary reason why I spent $200 on a battery instead of going the cheaper route.

Walmart MAAX T5 Battery. I have a 2007 base Corvette. Battery works like a battery! I do keep it on a tender when the car is not in use.
