Melting Slicks
Very. As noted above, it is the tank shield. Hard to know what's the shape of the tank behind it, or how hard it got hit. It's hard to know how it got damaged without damaging other parts as well, the rocker panel, control arm to name a few. For a car with only 9k miles there are issues here that make the car really suspect. I'd pass unless you're getting the deal of the century and are willing and able to put up with and fix surprises.
You're welcome.

Way too many truly 'mint' Vettes out there to settle for one with such obvious undercarriage damage. Run, don't walk away from this regardless of whether or not the owner promises to fix it. That's most likely why he wants to sell it.

I am seeing base C7s for low 40's with under 7 k miles. Is it possible to get these cars for a hair under $40k with under say, 7500 miles? I dont need one bell or whistle on it. If that's the case maybe ill look for C7s.

That car has almost certainly been off-roading. Avoid unless the seller is willing to replace.

I looked for 4-5 months before I found mine. Actually, it seems you can get the better deals from dealers with corvettes. Private owners all seem to want way too much for them. dealers seem to stick closer to blue book prices, plus if you want one, they will sell you a warranty too. Try Cargurus. thats where I found mine.

Moving forward, this is my 2 cents on Vettes in the bit ive been looking for a used one for my father: there are many older gentelmen that own these cars that are asking crazy high prices on them which makes me think when i see them, i dont even want to bother making an offer. A lot of the C6s seemed to be priced high still. Regarding the Vette with the pics i posted above, I got this guy down to 33K, but again we are passing. I dont think it would be a terrible deal if it didnt have these problems.

Where are you looking? If you’re only looking at cars on dealer’s lots, you’ll always find higher prices. Try Car Gurus and Auto Trader and you’ll prolly find what you’re looking for. I was in your position exactly two year ago. I was absolutely going to buy a ‘13 GS and was actively looking for one when I happened upon that blue car in my sig. I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse and for the last two years I’ve been enjoying it. I believe that nowadays you can find a 2014 C7 for not too much over what you’re prepared to spend for a C6.
Keep looking. Go to those two sources I mentioned earlier and enter the search terms for a base, non-Z51, 2014 1LT, manual transmission Corvette. You might be pleasantly surprised. I just went to AT and saw one for $35K. If you can live with a higher miles car, you’ll prolly find a nice one for your price range.

Like others are saying, if you're not mechanically inclined or know your way around cars DO NOT purchase without having an inspection done or at least having someone you trust get it on a lift. This car in particular is prone to improper jacking damage.
