Newb in need of help.
I looked and i cant find what i need. I am sorry. I searched.
My dad is an old man wanting to buy a Vette. He knows nothing and i know minimal. Everything was fine until i looked under the car and saw this--see attachment.
I dont want him to get ripped off. There's non red oil dripping from the rear.
BTW-its a 2012 Grand Sport with 9K miles only.

Safety Car
Red oil = trans fluid
this one looks like it’s led a hard life. At least I would take it to an alignment shop and see if chassis has been damaged enough to affect if it drives straight.

Thanks for the response. It's a mint car, one owner, with 9K miles. Its not red, its like motor oil. Thinking its diff oil. Does GM have a plug-in at the dealer to say how many times it's been launched controlled?

I have to differ with you, this Sir is definitely not a Mint car!! If you're looking to buy i would Not, if it's already yours and you say it's a one owner car you should know how this happened and just how many times it's been launched controlled! But mint.....no way

Hi OP...IMHO that car should be taken directly to a dealer/independent shop for an analysis of what’s wrong. As stated above it could be a diff plug issue...my guess is it is worse, but there is simply too much lube over the bottom of that car to ignore. Since you stated that you can’t assess the problem you should get it to someone that can before you (or your dad) agrees to buy it. Good luck...

If you don't own it now:
don't own it until after the present owner fixes the problem.
If you do own it now: get it to a Corvette shop (or dealer) and get it on a lift so the underside can be checked. Plus you have a real mess to clean up under the car.
To answer your current question...C6 rear diffs, on a non-modified car, are virtually bullet proof. Unless they have been run low on fluid.
Go to any GM dealer with the vin # and ask the service department to print the GMVIS and build sheets for this car.
Plus, there looks to be serious metal crumpling in the photo.

Melting Slicks
For the tank shield to have been bent that far up? And that much oil and dirt accumulated in only 9k miles? Who knows how much oil is left inside and how long it was driven like that.
Your dad is not mechanically inclined and neither are you. The repairs will not be cheap and we don't even know what kind of hidden damage there is. Anybody can buff out the paint and shampoo the carpet to make it look mint. Be smart and walk away from this money pit.

Let's go back to an earlier question...do you own this car, or are you looking to own it?

don't own it until after the present owner fixes the problem.

So that semi-shiny bit is bent? Looked funny to me too. I want to confirm, that isnt supposed to be that way? if so i think we will pass on the car. I dont want bent metal under there. it should be like new.
Thanks for the insight.

Ask to put the car on a lift and see how far forward the fluid is leaking. If it's coming from the engine and travelling through the torque tube, then I would advise moving on from this car, unless! Offer the seller $5-6K less than what he's asking to cover potential repairs. Or better yet, take it to a car wash that can clean the undercarriage and see what the real damage (if any) there is. This really could be just a loose plug on the diff. No sense in leaving what could potentially be a great buy based on presumptions.
