Default Best brake pads for spirited street driving?

Hey guys,

I'm gonna have to put some new pads on my 13' grandsport soon, pads are squealing pretty bad. Which pads do you recommend for an aggressively driven daily driver?

Thanks

Do you actually aggressively brake and want to great stopping power? I'd say sticky tires would help more than a brake pad would.

With that said, the Stoptech 309 series is a good pad (aka Sport Series) to use on the street. I've used them for road course duty. Can handle high heat, plus they're not expensive. Will dust more than ceramics though, but not too bad in my experience if you're willing to clean the wheels up occasionally.

I have Michelin super sports, they are great on the street. As my op states my current pads are noisy and need to be changed, So i am looking for advice as to what pads are best on the street. I have a ecs kit on the car and drive it aggressively, for the street anyway. So stopping power is important but i guess main thing would be lack of noise. I'd rather not have dust but can deal with it if needed.

Get some nice ceramics man, don't need to overthink it. I personally have a set from Akebono that work great..no issues and I'm happy with no noise and no dust that I can detect. A lot of other users have the Autozone Duralast Gold ceramics and report the same thing.

Essentially, pick a ceramic and run with it. I haven't seen anyone complain about any specific ceramics, but maybe someone will chime in on what NOT to get.

If you want a high quality low dust performance street pad I would recommend the Carbotech 1521. 100% made in the USA. Non-corrosive dust will not harm your wheels or paint.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Autozone Duralast Gold Ceramic - $100 for all pads, Front and Rear. A very knowledgable CF member and I just put these on my C6, and they are great. I really enjoy the heavy breaking technique he taught me ... goes well with high acceleration. Save your money for Borla exhaust.

I've had the Powerstop Z26 pads on my 08 Z06 for about 4-5 months now. Absolutely love them and they're priced well. Almost no brake dust and squeak free! I couldn't stand the squealing noises when coming to a slow stop. Braking power is slightly reduced from stock, but the reduction in brake dust alone is worth the trade-off. My competition gray wheels would look nearly black in a week. Now they still look freshly washed even after 2 weeks.

I will definitely get them again when the time comes.

DO NOT COAST into turns. Put your weight on either the Gas Pedal, or the Brake Pedal.

Brake LATE. Don't coast into turns. Keep turning high RPMs until the last second, and then BRAKE AS HARD AS POSSIBLE to the Apex.
AND THEN BACK ON THE GAS.
Braking as late as possible will shift the weight down onto the Front Tires, maximizing brake effectiveness. And then, back on maximum throttle will allow rear wheel drift steering, forcing the car around the turn. He also suggested reading this book:

Racing is AGGRESSIVE. If you want to win, you have to be aggressive. Dan said that there is only a Split Second between Full Throttle and FULL BRAKING.

I'm not gonna say that Dan demonstrated this style of driving a Corvette on city streets, but ... well ... it was an impressive "lesson".

The only thing I knew about the Corvette, before owning one, was that someone once said, "It is more than the sum of the parts." What I have started learning --and it is clear I have only scratched the surface-- is that my Corvette is AN ANIMAL that is quite capable of smoothly, easily and readily doing things I have never imagined.

If you only wax your car and go to cruise ins, ceramics are fine. If you drive your car hard, they're asking for trouble.

Sounds like you want a streetable pad that gives good performance. I use stoptech street pads, though will switch to the powers to z26 sooner or later.

I put Hawk HPS 1 piece pads on my '13 GS. First mod I made. Very happy with them for "an aggressively driven daily driver". Much better than stock and unlike ceramic pads you are very unlikely to over drive them on the street, even places like the Tail of the Dragon.

Thanks guys, yeah I think I will end up with the stoptechs or hawks. Seems like either of those will fit my driving style a little better.

I have to disagree. I have had DLG ceramics on my car for over 2 yrs. I have taken 4,500 mi. road trips (with lots of aggresive driving. More importantly I Auto-X my 2012 GS and have had 0 problems with ceramics. Very

I thought only old guys drive corvette's! My hearing is so bad I can't hear any squealing. More range time will fix that squealing noise.
