Default Harmonic Balancer

Ok Guys I think I may have found the source of that oscillating vibration that I get around 65 and up. I did some searching and found my harmonic balancer has got a slight wobble to it and from what I understand it is a normal part failure on the C6. So while I wait to see if the Bars leak stop works on my rear main seal I thought I'd ask A) recommendations for a replacement and B) what the going rate is for swapping it out.

Thanks for all the help on the cruise control issue and seal recommendations......

Most folks are going to recommend either Powerbond or ATI. I chose Powerbond because I feel like the quality was really there for the price.

I got quotes ranging from $350 to $1100 for labor. I found that the best prices were typically performance shops who actually know what the job is and don't base it off of booked hours.

Thanks for the reply. The guy I will use is the same guy that dropped both my gas tanks to replace sending units, crossover pipe, fuel lines etc. Guy knows his stuff and is the one that will be doing my rear main seal.

That's the one I use as well. It will perform great. Wait until you feel how solid it is compared to the factory balancer.

I'm sure you just missed the 's' accidentally, but I want to mention it to be safe. I'd replace both belts while he's in there.

If it is a vibration you can feel or hear, and your HB only has a slight wobble, I seriously doubt that is the source of the vibration. Did you look at the same time to see if any pulleys were wobbling?

Hope it works for you, though.

Get a new front crank seal too.

Nothing at all to change if your installing a new balancer.

Yup ... you have 2 belts.

A long belt and a short one that just turns the AC compressor

Did you get a aftermarket bolt If not. There is a special way that the GM bolt is torqued. Make sure your mechanic knows the sequence to use.

Here are the two I purchased after a stupid amount of research. It took forever to find the correct A/C belt. There is a lot of conflicting info online.

Continental Elite 4040410 Poly-V / Serpentine Belt (A/C belt)
Continental Elite 4060798 Poly-V / Serpentine Belt

Word of advice, check it over well before doing it or taking it to a shop, I went thru 2 from Summit that had to be returned, wound up at Rock Auto

I had mine replaced by a performance shop about a month ago for $650. I didn't want to mess with it and they said they've done bunches of them. Took them 3 hours and now I'm all good. I usually attempt this stuff myself but this one seemed worth the labor charge to not have to figure it out.

A "slight wobble" will not cause a vibration that you can feel. Suggest you do further trouble shooting unless you want to spend ~$1000 and still have the original problem.

Well either way the balancer needs to be replaced. As for the vibration it comes and goes so I will look into the next. I appreciate your input though......
