Those who said they never heard of chrome wheels loosing air ignored my post on a similar thread. Here is what my 10 year old OEM chrome wheel that was loosing air looked like. The tire shop said this is common on chrome plated alloy wheels eventually. All but one of my wheels were pitted like this. The face is in good condition, no curb rash, etc.

It's an 05 and has been in So. Cal since new so it was caused by moisture in the compressed air, not the environment.

P.S; Posted the picture to show it isn't a fish story and had nothing to do with the valve stem. If you check my profile and read the visitor message you will see, in addition to mikeCsix, others have had the same problem

Something like this can happen to any 10 year old chrome wheel but it’s certainly not a indication it’s a rampant flaw in a certain wheel type.

I posted this for the many who say they have never heard of this happening. Who said anything about a rampant flaw? It comes from old age.

My mistake if I misspoke but I didn’t see where anyone said it couldn’t happen.

Contacted Tirerack today and they will take a closer look to see what's up.

Checked the pressure this AM with a digital guage, all at 30. Heading out tomorrow till Sunday.

I'll check them again and post the results and then see if a trip to Tirerack is in order.

This was a garaged Alabama car so I hope they don't find what Batman75 posted. I would assume TR would have mentioned if there were problems as they have in the past when I've been there.

Tire techs have deeply scratched more than one wheel while changing runflats. One of mine is that way...very slow leak.

Take a spray bottle of soapy water and spray the rim where the bead seats.

Please post your resolution.

agreed, had this issue with my camaro when I bought aftermarket wheels. I haven't had a issue since. Leak was so slow you couldn't pick it up.

Update:

7-17, car sat overnight, tires were filled to 30 lbs, checked with a digital guage.

7-23 - Home from a fishing trip, car in the garage for six days, pressure checked with same gauge.

1 @ 29.5, 2 @ 29 and 1 @ 27. The one at 27 has a small rim leak, soap test.

One other change: When TireRack installed the TPMS they switched the valve stem caps from the metal ones that came with the TPMS to plastic ones. When I removed the plastic ones I did hear a small air leak. I think the caps were hitting the stem and causing the leak I had previously. Since the car was not outside the caps were not on. The metal caps will go back on.

I see a few folks like to use soapy water to look for air leaks, I like to use a liquid gas leak detector. It only foams in the presence of a leak and is easier to use when looking for small leaks. One bottle will last a really long time, and if you have natural gas or propane at home, its ideal. I got mine from Home Depot.

I use the bubble juice that kids use to blow bubbles in the air, I may have got it at the dollar store but it gets the job done cheap.

Store bought bubble juice isn’t the best idea.
The ingredints in it aren’t the best. Sugar baking powder starch

stick to the good old soap and water bottle.

Ambient temperature can play havoc. I think it's one pound of pressure per 10 degree increase?
