Default Back from C7-ville

Hey all,

A couple of years ago, I moved on from my 2010 GS into a C7 Z06. Fabulous car, drop-dead gorgeous. But I wound up rarely driving it because it was just too dang uncomfortable for me to drive. I'm 6'5", 285 lbs and while I could 'fit,' it was an exceedingly tight fit and just not pleasant for me. My knees were always against the bolster and more often than not, while contorting myself to get in, my knee would hit the trunk lid button and I'd have to get out, close it, and try getting in again. Sometimes I went through this routine 3 times before I could buckle in and actually drive the car. Must have looked comical to anyone watching...

Anyway, I finally faced reality that the vehicle wasn't for me and traded it on a loaded 2SS Camaro convertible and (and used the diference to help build a garage behind my house). Abolutely love it, plenty of car, very comfortable for me, and almost as much fun to drive as the Z06.

But now I'm retired and I wanted another Corvette. So I recently located a 2011 GS, 3LT, manual 6 speed, velocity yellow with under 6K miles. Still looks and smells new. Original owner took very good care of it. Only options it doesn't have are the magnetic ride (which I didn't want because this 7-year old car has no warranty and wanted to keep maintenance simple/economical) and Nav (which I didn't want because it's really dated). LOVE this car. I fit just fine - has reasonable room for me. And I honestly think this body style is one of the best looking Corvettes made. Feels good rowing the gears again.

Here she is - my new (to me) pride and joy. Good to be back!

Congrats on the new ride, looks great! I also prefer my C6 vert over my C7Z, they are truly great cars!

Gal in our corvette club got ride of her C7 to go back to a GS C6. She just didn't like them that much. Fit was not an issue.
Also my wife and I where looking at 2017 SS camaro, we rented one before purchasing and I'm glad we did, yes they are fast but too many blind spots unless the top is down....good luck with your new ride it looks sweet.

Glad you said it. When I bought my 2012 coupe last year I ruled out buying a C7 because I didn't like the looks. I just couldn't warm up to it. Only recently have I heard that the C7 interior is a little tighter than the C6. This boggles my mind, since

I believe the typical new Corvette owner is getting older and heavier. GM must know this. Anyway, at Carlisle last week I sat in a new C7 for the first time. The interior looks beautiful, but it felt tight for me, and I am a thin 6' 3", 175lb.

adjusted wheel, seat all the way back - still tight

Beautiful Vette, what a find! Great way to come back to the C6. Enjoy it and don't let it spend too much time in that fine garage.

I fully understand your decision......6'4" and 240lbs. Dont fit in the C7. Hoping the C8 will be more roomy but not holding my breath. Love my C6.

According to many articles with the introduction of the C7, GM was going for a younger demographic with the new style Corvette.
Corvette online 2014:

"The last few decades have seen the average age of Corvette buyers grow alongside the car itself. With the average age of a new Corvette buyer clocking in around 59 years old, GM is hoping to attract a younger, hipper crowd with the 2014 Corvette Stingray, reports USA Today. GM is hoping the kind of upwardly-mobile 40-somethings looking to reward themselves might consider a Corvette over the competition.

But the Corvette still has to shake off the stodgy reputation of many older owners, and that could be harder than building a sports car that appeals to two drastically different generations of would-be buyers."

GM's target age for C7 buyers was mid-to-upper 40s. One of the comments of this post was from a 71 year old that said that the C7 made him feel 21 again. Good for him....

just prior to buying my C6 ( jan / 2017 ), I was looking at the 5th gen SS Camaro's. was pretty close on a few, but then noticed that for the same $$$, I could step into a C6. the Camaro's had a lot more leg room then the C6, but as I'd always longed for the 'vette,, went that direction instead. I haven't yet driven a C7, but have sat in a few. then seem to have a bit more leg room length-wise, but about the same width-wise.
coming in at 6'-2" ( 290lbs ), I seem to be at my limit of fitment on the C6.
if it ever becomes too much of a hassle getting in & out, then i'll be looking at the 5th ( 6th? ) gen Camaro's again.

no rush though! having way too much fun!

Welcome back to one of the best looking and best performing Vettes ever made. I never warmed up to the C7 and never will.
