CAI On A Budget
I like to keep things mostly stock on my '11 GS and also wasn't interested in spending big money on a aftermarket CAI system. So I went with this simple shroud that keeps cool air on the filter side and hot air in the engine bay area. I drilled 5 holes (1.75dia) in the lower part of the fan shroud to allow max cool air to reach the intake. Pretty slick IMO.

The wedge bolts trick works a lot better, since if you drill too many holes, have too much outside air coming in, can end up with surging problems.
Hence if you did wedge the shroud open to much and get surging problems, then you just make the wedge gap smaller instead. With drilling holes, would need to start filling/plating some of the hole back closed until you solve the surging problem isntead.
