Going To Roll Race My '13 GS vs 2011 Mustang Shelby,What To Expect?
Met a car enthusiast in my neighborhood with a 2011 Shelby. After talking we said we should race for fun to see the difference in cars. He is a track rat I am not. Both cars are totally stock, 6 speed manuals. I have Bridge stone RE-11's he has I think Nittos. We said from about 30 mph. I have zero issues hooking up in first gear at any speed on a roll as long as it is warm out and the pavement is good. We have a brand new stretch of road where we live and my car gripped like crazy when I have drove on it. Stomped 1st, chirped 2nd and 3rd very crisply. I don't mind winning or loosing just want to have fun, what can I expect? BTW he said he has ran his car numerous times and the best time for him was a 12.6.

I'm not sure whats up with everyone and roll racing! I tell people 1/4" mile period. This roll racing came around because kids were loosing to better cars too much and they needed to make them selves feel better by coming up with a new set of rules that favors their cars. I wouldn't worry about it. Your cars faster anyways. Run him in the roll race and regardless of win or loose when your done say, "so you want to do some drag racing for money".

Boy you sure nailed in on the roll racing thing, funny.
If the other guy is a track rat he has the advantage of experience.

I've owned both, I'd probably give the nod to the gt500 assuming he can half ways drive. With just a pulley, tune and cat delete on my 10' I'd walk h/c/I c5z's, and cammed ls3 vettes. With that said, most gt500 drivers cant drive to save their life so you may have a advantage.

Expect upwards of a $400 fine, a 6-month loss of license, and maybe 30 days jail time if you get nabbed.
As far as the race is concerned, it's a toss-up. I'd lean toward the Mustang, only due to the experience of the driver.

lol that's the problem. I only know what I and my car can do on a roll, zero chance of wheel spin in any gear in this weather on this road with my tires. I am not a racer, hence why we are roll racing. I guess it give us (or me actually) the best chance of having fun without the tires spinning all over.

If you are into it for more than 1/4 mile - with a rolling start - you could be going 120 mph. Seems like a really bad idea. Don't you have a 1/4 mile dragstrip you can go to for a test and tune?

The closest track to me is Atco, about a hour and a half. I have never been to a 1/4 track in my life nor have I ever raced. Believe me I am dying to try it although I'm sure I will stink. We will probably run this twice, go down once and turn around at the end and do it again. Like I said earlier this is just for fun to see what these cars will do against each other. There is really no winner or looser here, we are both just curious. Trying to get this done now in warm weather here in NY. while our cars have good traction, but that window is closing fast.

I am not a racer, hence why we are roll racing. Learn to drive your car, that statement alone, should be embarrassing enough. Take it to the track, if that doesn't make sense, no one can help you. THINK.

Embarrassing to who? I don't race never have, there are no facilities around to race so I never have and never claimed I could. I can drive it on the street, quite well (shifting) but the track is a whole other ballgame, one of which I don't think I have the skills to do because I have no experience in that setting.

"Roll racing," which is a new term to me (but I know what it is) is better at judging which car is fastest -- assuming both guys know how to shift. Standing starts, especially with sticks, tells which driver is better -- assuming the cars are more or less equal.

I will assume that is a question.

Given that you've stated he's a 'track rat' and you've never raced, I give him the advantage regardless if it's from a standing or rolling start. Most often it comes down to who's the better driver versus who has the fastest car. Over the decades, I've done my share of racing both on strips and, when I was much younger and dumber, on the streets. I've beaten cars that I know were faster and, on paper, should have beaten me; on the flip side, I've lost to vehicles I know my car was faster then .. the difference comes down to the experience and ability of the drivers under 'race' conditions.. That being said, find a track or a closed road/runway and have fun .. win or lose, you gain from the experience.

Going triple digits under that overpass, or even that stretch of road is a bad idea period.
Way too many unforeseen variables!

Regardless, street racing is STUPID.
