Default Looking for opinions - MGW or TMOD shifter

hello,

looking for opinions from from anyone who may have tried both the TMOD upgrade of the stock lower box vs the MGW short shifter kit.

I have been looking at both and wondering if anyone has used both types and what your experiences were with each.

I appreciate any feedback.

Well the MGW gives you both a short shifter and the lower box. The product is second to none in my opinion.

Thanks Bartsky, I don’t really have any experience with upgraded shifters. All the cars I’ve ever driven were stock shifters. I’m looking really hard at the MGW, but the TMOD sounds pretty good too.

Latest MGW + Anti Venom Mod (1 Washer) gave me the best overall shifting experience.

MGW for the win!!! You may can call them up or see if they are a vendor on here and tell them you're a forum member and they may give you a discount or coupon.

I have never done a short shifter in any of my cars before. Never felt the need. Had an STi and then a Miata before the Vette...both awesome transmissions.

Just picked up my Vette a few weeks ago and I was having the, "grinding into third gear" problem. Read that the MGW had stiffer springs and figured that plus just new hardware would help.

Partially helped the grinding (changing the transmission fluid helped way more) but I can say that the MGW is a super, super nice part. Really well designed and put togeher, the kit has everything you need, etc. I like the shorter throw a lot too...the stock throw definitely felt a little long.

Thank you everyone for your input, looks like MGW has a really solid reputation.

I just did this on Saturday!!!

I was on the fence for quite a while between MGW, Core Hurst, RSD and TMod but after talking to Tom at TMods I decided to go with his lower box mod and a cut down and threaded stock sifter. I was nervous about ruining the one in the car so I bought a new stock shifter to play with. Sent the lower to Tom to do his magic and I cut down and threaded the shifter myself. If I knew it was going to turn out as good as it did I would have done the one in the car in a heart beat and save a bunch of dough. I can't say how much smoother and sharp the shifting is now. As Tom suggested to me do the TMod box first. You will NOT regret it. Check out his vid. The stock bushings and grommets SUCK!!!!
I also cannot say enough about working with Tom. He's a real stand up solid guy. The swap was well worth the effort.

OP, you may have a hard time finding actual comparisons. MGW has always had an outstanding reputation, and TModd has only been around for a short time. Most of the people commenting here have had the MGW and only the MGW, which offers zero comparative value.

I am also interested in your original question, to people that have tried BOTH. Not just one or the other. (Because we all already know that an upgraded shifter box is a great mod.) But a comparison between cheaper/up and coming (TModd) against the "champ" (MGW) would be great!

haha, that’s exactly what I was hoping to get. But I think you’re right. Seems like both are pretty good and few people would change out once they did one or the other.

Exactly. But at nearly the same price point (TModd box/shifter is close to $300 and a new MGW is $360, or cheaper used), it's definitely worth having an objective review.

Maybe MGW and TModd will both send me one for free and I'll happily provide feedback

No way close $$. The TMod box is $125 plus a refundable $100 core (or send him your box) and I cut down and threaded the shifter myself. Add standard shift **** of your choice ($40 for the Hurst ball)
