Default Bored with big HP/TQ

Well, I always wanted a nitrous car and make 600+ hp. 2 years ago I did just that with my C6 GS. Made 600hp and 670tq. All the goodies, nano, fuel cell ects. Hassel free.

It was bolt on and cam before the nitrous. I did the nitrous, clutch and switched to an 18 in drag radial. It hooked well and would suck your eyeballs into your skull.

It was fun for a summer, but I quickly hated the handling characteristics. The car handles poorly in turns and is really only a straight line car. I miss taking an onramp at a good clip, Apex and hammering down. Just general performance driving other than straight line is sub par for a Corvette.

I'm thinking of taking the nitrous off, putting some great handling tires back on and dial in the suspension. I'm thinking of starting to do autocross and potentially a few track days.

Anyone else feel or felt this way?

Sounds like you should either take up skydiving or bowling.

I guess, the car just seems one dimensional.

I didn't realize how much I appreciated the crisp handling.

It sounds like the only thing you have changed that would affect handling is the slicks. Why not go back to stock rear wheels and tires and enjoy the great handling. You will just have to roll into the throttle instead of stabbing it. Horsepower is fun, but so is crisp handling.

The car is one dimensional because your driving is one dimensional. The car likely can still do handling that would blow you away.

that said, your car isnt a good option for beginning in autocross ot hpde. You will wreck with that much power, and with that much modification you will likely have a hard time finding instructors to trust you with their life.

My advice, buy a 6 speed c4 and only do reliability and safety mods on it, and use that as a track car. Drive it stock until you're the fastest guy on the track despite not having the fastest car. Once you've reached that point, either upgrade the car then or just move up to a faster car.

I feel like you missed the entire point of his post. He wants to take the car back to near stock performance before autocross/hpde.

I saw that. He wants to take the nitrous off and switch from drag radials. He still has a bolt ons + car, and that's more than you want to start in autocross ot hpde.

I stand by my comments, learn on a slower car before strutting out there with 500hp.

Some comments really explain ones knowledge, (or lack of). I mean sure while the C-6 isn't the best handling sports car in the world, it is far from the worst. And to suggest that it is just a "straight line" ride is just.............

Valid comment. I have done several track days and a few autocross events with an instructor, so by no means is this out of the blue. Not in this car though.

Unfortunately, I got caught up in the HP game and started chasing a number.

No reason to throw stones with the lack of knowledge comment. I'm well versed proper vehicle handling and any vehicle with big drag radials set at 20-25 psi isn't turning. Perhaps, you missed that part.

You'll never be the 'best of the best' out there. I've been happy with my LS2 400/400 for 13 years now. Everyone has their own priorities.

I didn't miss anything.....Quote....."The car handles poorly in turns and is really only a straight line car". So your quote has 2 choices. It's a poor handling vehicle.......or it's poor handling vehicle with drag radials on it. Either way it's unreasonable to call it a straight line only car. Who would expect any car to handle well while wearing drag radials......

If your bored with your car just change it to suit your new needs, its easy. Sell the nitrous stuff and buy tires. Autocross it till your bored again. One of the great things about these cars is that they are so modifiable, they can change with us.

I went through this with my camaro and ended up buying a C6 to get my balanced feel. The C6 caused me to mod for handling on the camaro to get that to feel more balanced for the power it had. Suggest getting a C7 Z06 or ZR1 which seems to be balanced handling and very decent HP.
