2005 6sp manual - cannot shift into any gear
I was just leaving a restaurant and backing out my 2005 C6 with the 6 speed manual transmission and could not shift into and forward gear. Then I could not get the shifter to go back into reverse.
Any ideas on what might be causing this problem????

Can you put the car in gear with the car off? Hydraulics (master failure) or shifter linkage are the easier ones to diagnose.
My pick is the shifter linkage, a few key hand tools to take the console off. 30 mins tops to do that if you haven't done it before. (torx bits, 7mm socket, and whatever size the actual linkage torx is) Lots of instructional videos on youtube for that.

You can see the big torx in the back on the linkage that when loose would keep the linkage from engaging a gear properly relative to the shifter movement.

I had an issue once where I could not shift my 2011 6 speed into 2nd, 4th or 6th gear. Easily went into 1st, 3rd, 5th and reverse. Was told it was probably that torx screw. 10 minutes later it was shifting fine again and no problems since. Anyone else experience anything like that?

Could be the connection to the shift linkage. I had this issue with an aftermarket shifter because the screw came loose connecting to the linkage. 30min fix to take the center console cover off, fix, and replace. I used loctite the second time and sinched it down hard.

Let us know what you figure out.

Do you have the stock shifter? Can you post some good pictures or even better, a video of what it's doing?

I do have a stock shifter. Can’t video it. It only happened one time. Started home after a club event and could not shift into 2nd, 4th or 6th. When I first shifted towards 2nd it felt like the skip shift was blocking me out so I went to 4th and it wouldn’t go there either. Then I realized I couldn’t get in 6th either. 1st, 3rd, 5th all worked fine. Half way home I stopped, tried reverse and it went right in, turned the car off, waited for a minute, restarted and started home again. Still could not get into 2nd, 4th or 6th gears. Stopped at the next light, and everything was back to normal after that. Hasn’t happen again since. Checked the shifter box thinking maybe the linkage slipped that night and slipped back in position. Everything was to tight for that to have happened. Any ideas???????

Wow that's really odd that it would start doing that and then magically fix itself. Especially if you found that everything was tight in there. Tbh I'm not sure on that one. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

I ordered a skip shift eliminator from southern car parts last night. It did feel like it was the skip shift that kept me out and second. Felt the same when I tried 4th and 6th. I know the skip shift shouldn’t affect those two gears but thought what the heck, been thinking about installing it anyway. Had one on my C5, worked great. No one else has experienced this?????
