Default Lights in Cargo Bay are on While driving

I notice the lights in the cargo bay are always on when driving the car. Its a little annoying and distracting at night because I sometimes think someone is coming beside me. I have to look twice before changing lanes. They do go off when the car is off. Is there a way to turn them while driving?

Do they shut off as soon as you turn the car off or do they time out? If they time out, I guessing the shut off switch/sensor for the hatch area isn't working properly when the hatch is closed. My cargo lights come on when the hatch is opened, running or not, and go out as soon as I close the hatch. If I leave the hatch open without the car running, they well time out after several minutes. If they are shutting off immediately upon turning the car off, not sure what the problem maybe, could be a short somewhere.

They time out after I shut the car off and close the doors. I'll fiddle with them again..

If the map lights on the rear view mirror are not also on and given that the rear lights time out, I'm guessing it's an issue with the switch/sensor in the hatch area that is supposed to shut them off when the hatch is closed. In my '06 the button on the dash will only turn the map lights on/off, it will not turn the hatch lights on/off.

The switch is meant to have total control of that, you can check it properly..

Here is a similar thread. I believe the issue was the switch which is part of the hatch release mechanism.
