That's the short procedure where you're just going to add a new fob. Notice that mentions the new fob being 2, 3, or 4.
The long procedure starts on the right side of page 7. It does not say anything about no fobs close to the car, but for some reason, the long procedure from the link says you have to do that. Don't know why the owner's manual doesn't mention it if it's required for the long procedure.

The long procedure will erase all fobs that you don't program with that procedure.

I bought my OEM #1 on Ebay for $85 after a long search - brand new - the PO had lost the #1 key fob but I still had #2 for the "memory" stuff - anyway I did a "short" program on the new one just so I could be able to run the car. My Stealership wanted $120 for a new key fob and another $100 to program it.

The actual process, is that the RCDLR resets to null and then starts to add fobs in the order they are presented. It's the same procedure that's used for tire pressure sensors.

I got my new FOB today and i did the short procedure....New question and last one:...Can I later on down the road do the long procedure on it??...Thanks

I read the long term procedure about 10 times and printed it to take out to the car with me and i only have two fobs,the old #1 and the new one.I will do them Saturday because we will have temps in the low 80s and sunshine.Will take 3 cold beers out to the car and have one beer in the three 10 minutes programing process.
