I had the same issue several months ago and had the belts replaced. The chirping went away but has recently returned once the temperatures dropped. I think it was a Gates belt and I'm wondering what brand is best?

Gates is as good as it gets. Zr1's use them and z28 camaros.

I ordered ati super damper 918847 for LS3. Talked with sales rep at summit, was told that's the one. Also found the bolt at autoplicity. I appreciate everyone's input, thanks!

I think the ATI #918847 is the 25% under drive ???? Is that what you wanted???

My local Vette guy installed the standard size ATI # 917266 on my '07 when mine went bad

918847 is for stock base C6, so says the Summit webpage. No underdrive.🙄 You had me worried.

Our 2007 started to chirp last month with 48K miles. We replaced the serpentine belt, the chirp came back after 100 miles. Last week we replaced the HB. We got lucky after dealership misquoted labor hours in our favor, so we only paid $550. They gave us the original HB and it was really bad!! I still need to take pictures of it. But damn the luck if the chirp isn't still there! She's back in the shop and we are waiting to hear what they find next. My brother (mechanic/IRL, Sprint car, and racing boat engine builder) simply said "welcome to Vette ownership". :P

3 years ago bought my 2007 corvette with 17000 miles. Got car home and next morning heard the squeal from the belts. Had a 90 day warranty from the used car dealer and had the HB replaced for free with stock GM part, balancer and bolt. Also put on Gates racing belts. Have not had a wobble or squeal in 3 years. The car has 33000 miles on it now. I was quoted at the time $1300 by a Chevrolet dealer and $600 by a local speed shop to replace the HB. I have been told that the car could run 100,000 miles with a minor wobble or it could break loose within a 1000 miles and do some serious damage.
I would replace HB!

I don't want to say you're wrong and I don't want to be a PITA, but..

Take a closer look... maybe I'm reading it wrong ..... From Summit Racing's web page for the 918847

And from ATI's web site..........

My stock, wobbly balancer is just under 7.5 inches... pulley groove diameter...

ATI box flap for the one I had installed......

TS, when I first read your comment that the "sales rep" said, "that's the one", I thought, "this is going to be interesting..."

The "sales rep" at Summit is a counter guy, He doesn't know a C6 from a C3, unless he owns a C6, and wrenches on it himself (very unlikely). My bet is that he doesn't know what a "25% underdrive" is. For others reading this who may not be aware...the last thing you want to do is ask a guy at Summit, or XYZ auto parts, what is best for your car. You will get much better advice from this forum, though it might take a full day to get it. It is worth it. The guys at the auto supply are supposed to MAKE THE SALE.

EricR, received the wrong HB today, just as you said, called Summit Racing, and was handled very professionaly ...return was easy, they are shipping me an ATI 917266 which should be correct. AND they sold t to me at same price as the wrong one, $360 ,saving me a bunch. AND A FREE HAT! So thanks for the lesson! And kudos to Summit Racing. Hopefully I will have the Vette back by end of week.😁

Just replaced a new Gates belt with Continetal gatorback belt. no more chirp.
One way to tell if its belt chirp. spray (mist) water on belt and see if chirp stops

I replaced my belts but the squeak eventually returned. A new, non wobbly, true running balancer fixed the issue... Run your new belts, but if and when the squeak returns take a good close look at the balancer.. The wobbly GM balancer doesn't make the squeak, the belts wear from the wobble and then start squeaking.

I dont see it as bad luck. It gave you a warning which is good. Now you ave the opportunity to put a better brand of HB than the GM brand and you will be good to go for a very, very long time.

I had mine done by an independent mechanic that specializes in Corvettes. He had done several before doing mine and he said he has it down to about 4.5 hours.. as long as he has all the required supplies.
Total was $900 ±.. including ATI balancer, new bolt, new seal, new belts...

I have never inquired, but others on the forum have said that dealers will not want to install an aftermarket balancer (or other parts)

Actually, for LS3 street use the steel shell and steel hub (ATI #917246) over the aluminum shell and steel hub (ATI #917266) is preferred. The aluminum shell is more for race applications. If you already purchased the #917266, I would just use it, no worries.
